So all I have is these 3 pics , but I just bought a 85 W350 .

Any of you wrecker drivers able to identify this wrecker body ? I’m familiar with the Holmes 440 ( which is what I was looking for when I found this) but this is newer and the seller knows jack shit about it .

That looks like a Protech II. I don't know if there was a first version, but that looks identical to one that I ran years ago. It was on an '86 F350, so the vintage seems correct. It was a good unit, extendable boom and the twin worm drive winches. It would pull pretty hard if you could get the scotch blocks to stick. The underlift worked well too. Not a huge amount of reach like newer units, but good.

Any idea on how high or far it will boom out?
Not exactly. I remember using it to lift pick-up cabs and little things like that. It seems like the boom would stand up a good amount and I believe that it would be safe to say that it would extend 2/3 of the length. Obviously you can sometimes put the underlift down close to the ground and slide it under for more reach.

I haven’t seen the truck in person, and the seller is this clueless millennial dipshit with skinny jeans and a man bun.

Buddy of mine brokered the deal , I really should feel guilty about what I paid for it .

@sweetk30 thanks for the links , from what I can see it’s missing one side of the Dolly and all the stuff from the wheel lift. So those links will be handy when it’s time to order or make parts .

Plan is to sell the Meyers plow which should cover the entire cost of the truck .

The cab is slated for another project ,

axles will he stashed in my parts collection,

Motor, trans, tcase are being traded to my buddy for M37 project

That leaves me with the wrecker unit , which I think will end up on Smokey or Smokey jr .

You could make a few bucks from the recycler for the second plow too - that bumper. :eek1:

they were big and heavy for a reason . #1 was to push dead vehicles with real bumpers unlike todays stuff .
but the main reason was ballast weight . old school wreckers were meant to work . pulling the front end up off the ground in a good recovery job was normal . the weight of the truck bobbing up there would help dislodge the vehicle and work like a fulcrum point . some guys would box them in and fill them with concrete or other heavy stuff to add even more weight for working advantage .
