Did Rock auto send me the wrong steering box?

The old box from my 72 Blazer is at the top, the input shaft of the new box has a bigger input spline and thus my steering shaft will not fit over the input shaft. Both of my power steering lines are to big to fit in the new box as well, did they send me a metric gear box?

This is why I wanted to buy local but no one had a steering gear box for a 72 Blazer!

Looks like you had a metric box. The top one is small drive spline, o ring style indicitave of later boxes.

If it were mine, I'd return the RA unit and have Raven (in Denver) service the box you had

I'm going to return the box to RA and start over... @bent72 tell me more about this Raven place.

So when I toasted my last steering box (6 in 10 years) I had enough. They have a good reputation. Think it cost me $200 for a complete overhaul

Added bonus is the small input box you have will accept the XJ shaft once you fall off the wagon and go wheel this thing
:deal:

I believe I have the XJ shaft already. :pimp:

Does Raven have a website or just a phone number?

I didn't find a website, but I wasn't real diligent in my search

No problem, nice to know what steering gear I have, it didn't even cross my mind that one of the past owners may have upgraded it to a newer unit.

but the xj shaft will NOT fit the older steering shaft your column has .

would have to change it or do some fab work .

It came with a CV jointed steering shaft, have no idea how the PO upgraded it. :dunno: Just found out in this thread that I have the newer metric box, these are the mysteries one gets with a new 44 year old Blazer.

If it has a CV joint, you're probably good. I'd bet the steering gear came from the TBI donor

PO said the donor was a 92 Suburban

Speaking of that, what is the year range of the metric box I have, did it start in 1977? Are 77-91 the same etc.?

I forgot all this info a few years ago...
