Wanted WTB 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton standard thread (banjo bolt) Calipers

Hey fellas,

Doing the disc brake swap on my 14FF and a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton swap on my D60.

I'm looking for x2 sets of not rusted out, fully functional 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton calipers . Preferably a set of true 3/4 tons for the front and 1/2 tons for the rear to keep more braking force in the front of the truck.

I'm looking for the ones that have the standard thread cause the brake lines I plan on running is NPT nylon brake line stuff and from my understanding it's a pain in the ass to find metric to NPT adapter fittings and I prefer not to tap the calipers for NPT.

Asking around on here before going to the parts store and seeing what they have. I know from looking at P/N's that the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton calipers in the parts stores share the name P/N. I know the RPO is different for them but I'm 99% positive they'd give me the same stuff regardless of if I provided them a correct RPO or not.

first off

1/2 and 3/4 ton same body size bigger pistion on 3/4 ton so don't mix them up end to end or side to side .

next yes its American thread on older but straight cut fine NOT tapered like NPT thread .

what crazy lines will you be using ? I just run ord lines for my truck year of calipers and don't look back . . . . the KISS method = keep it simple stupid . so on a sunday I have a better chance of getting parts from a store .

Understood.

The brake lines I plan on running are just clear nylon lines with brass compression fittings. Speedway sells a $30ish circle track kit that has enough line to plumb an entire truck and I believe it comes with enough of the compression fittings to tie all the line together. It come with an assortment of fittings, T's and such to split things up.

A lot of guys with buggies and those go fast U4 rigs run that exact kit and it does extremely well from what I've read.

I believe a NPS to NPT fittings will be 1000x easier to find than metric to NPT adapters, at least in the small size needed. If I remember correctly the fittings in the kit are mostly 1/8 NPT.
 
better make sure its d.o.t rated . . . and what psi spec is the kit for ? if hydro boost you can get up over 2k psi line pressure.

and if I recall someone had a thread on this speedway line before and it turned out to be a no go for a few reasons on our trucks.
 
I'll echo the concerns about the lines. I haven't used them, but I have heard that nylon lines expand enough to give a squishy response. Check the line pressure rating, buggies often do not use boosters at all, I'm not sure what pressures would be involved. But I do know what it's like to burst a brake line while driving! :eek1: :doah:

I've read some really good stuff about them. I'd have to look the kit up to find the pressure rating.

I'm like 110% sure that they're not DOT approved. I'm too poor for a nice hydroboost swap so I wouldn't be running that high of a PSI, I'm gonna go ahead and make an educated guess that hydroboost runs a higher PSI than vacuum brakes.
 
I'll give rockauto a look. Figured one of the guys on here had some sitting around or maybe aparts axle to rob them from which they'd let go for cheap.

I have both. I have a spare axle, and a set of unused 3/4-ton calipers that I bought from Autozone 2 years ago. They have surface rust but still have the plastic plugs and shiny new guide pins. I may or may not ever use them, so I guess you could buy them cheaply. But to buy them freshly rebuilt from the store was $12 apiece, IIRC. R/A wants $16-$24, so maybe the prices have gone up recently, but they're still a pretty cheap part to buy rebuilt instead of running crusty old ones. Seems like you'd burn more dollars in shipping costs and you'd still wind up with an old part. :dunno:

Those calipers? Or are they not for sale?

Checked out Rockauto, found some loaded raybestos calipers for $40something + core.

Autozone sells theirs for 1/2 that price. The spare calipers that I have are Autozone remans, you'd be better off just buying them directly. Sorry for the confusion. I'll ship them for basically what they would cost to go buy at Autozone. If you were buying other stuff I could throw them in the box, but shipping them is going to get expensive. And I'm still confused as to why you prefer old hardware to new. :dunno:
 
I've got a 35 year old or so caliper sitting in my garage that is kind of crusty but works just fine, the matching one I have for it is toast... bkth came off the same parts axle.

As long as they work properly I don't care if they're used or new. I was planning on using the ones I have as cores due to only 1 working.

Figured if someone had some sitting aeound on here that they would let them go for cheap and I can give a fellow CK5er some cash vs. spending it at the parts store.
