Just wanted to test the waters and see if anyone has a good running 700R4 and torque converter for sale so I can atleast get me K5 up and moving. Los Angeles area would be preferable unless someone out there has a screaming deal

If your lucky someone out there just rebuilt one then wrecked the truck a few weeks later... I've sold a few used ones that I could say were in working order, but none that I could say were "good running".

I pulled just that combo from a running 90 blazer.

P/O said they had less than 10K on em since rebuilt.

I have 3. I'm gonna use 1. One tranny needs rebuilding. I pulled the other out of a running '91 Blazer.

I'd do it for $100, tranny and coverter. It is out of a 1991 fullsize blazer. I was told it was rebuilt but I do not know the mileage. I drove the truck home 200 miles no problem. It did have a factory auxilliary tranny cooler which makes a big difference in longevity. Other than that I know very little about it. I could drop it off at a local roadway express palleted.

You sure your '88 has the 700R4?

A buddy of mine has the 4L60 instead. We all thought it was the 700R4 but decoded the RPO sticker and found its the 4L60 tranny instead. His Blazer was also an '88.

'91 was the first year of the 4L60 in the blazer. It's likely someone swapped a later tranny into the '88 truck if it was a 4L60. In any case a 4L60 is identical to a 700R4 which may be why it came up as a 4L60. The 4L60E was the later tranny which replaced the 700R4 and 4L60. It can be distinguished by the round vs square electrical plug. The 4L60E requires an electronic controller like the 4L80E. The 700R4 and 4L60 only require a device to lockup the torque converter which could be as simple as a toggle switch.

I called the tranny out of the '91 a 700R4 but it's code would come up as a 4L60 as '91 was the cutoff year. Bottom line, there is absolutely no difference between the two other than updated valve bodies, ports, some accumulators, and other nick nacks that progressed over time. They are completely interchangable.

I even looked at his RPO sticker in the glove box and checked the book. It came out exactly what my '91 K5 has, the 4L60.

Seems odd but I guess it's possible. Either way they are identical and its just the name.

Sweet, as long is it gets my truck up and moving. Right now my General Manager of the dealership isnt very pleased that my truck has been on the back lot for over a month now with no reg, no ins., and no smog.

I haven't dealt with shipping with anyone else other than Matheson, UPS, and Fed Ex, so just let me know what I have to do here on my end. I would probably have it shipped to my dad's machine shop in Marina del Rey, CA 90292.

As long as it just plain 'ol works and lets me actually drive my truck for the first time in 2 years i'm all over it and happy as a pig in ish

...now I just got to deal with the motor thats blowing out rusted water from the tailpipe like Lindsay Lohan at a dorm party doing her projectile vomit trick everytime I start the truck. I know it must be a blown head gasket, that mixed with a fragged trans would make most people move on, but I have NEVER given up on a car and I'm not going to start now :)

Thank you guys VERY much!!!

As a thought...I have the motor from my combo as well. Like I said I drove the truck home 200 miles. It was mechanically sound, no smoke, no knocks.

In my experiences it is about the same price to ship a pallet truck freight whether it weighs 10lbs or 600lbs. The last one I shipped was about 400lbs and cost $150 for a 2000 mile delivery. I'd say it would be under $200 to ship whatever you can fit on a pallett.

The tranny might go UPS or FedEx....if you ship the converter separate as the cutoff is 150lbs. I don't know off hand how much a 700R4 weighs but I do believe it is under 150lbs. I know a TH400 is about 300 lbs but it's also a giant cast iron pig inside. It is easily twice the weight of a 700R4.

If you want mine I'll research the weight and get you a shipping quote. Send me a PM if interested. I will need your zip code.

Mike
