I am looking for a diesel k5 for a winter vehicle. I've decided that I don't want my k10 exposed to any more salt and my s10 is terrible in the snow. So that brings me to a diesel k5. It doesn't matter if its a cucv or a civilian vehicle. I can't seem to find them on Craigslist, eBay, or anything closeby on gov liquidation. Let me know what you have.

Why purposely kill a square body for winter transport? I'd grab a Suzuki Sidekick, GM Tracker etc. As cheap or better on fuel and better in the snow in my experience...

try finding a good one in the rust belt. thay rusted out faster than our old stuff.

and the off road guys grab the good ones for light toys so we cant even touch them for a good price much these days.

I may just use my k10 anyway since the cab isnt perfect and has some hidden rust in the not so typical areas that has been slowly poking through. (Hence why i am also looking for a cab) But I have always wanted a k5 and a diesel one gets good mileage plus I really want a diesel. I'm not 100% settled on buying one yet but I'm on the lookout for the right one at the right price.

Also I'm done with 4 cylinders, not enough balls for me.

I don't think your going to experience any more balls than a 4 cyl with a 6.2! I see some popping up out here in CO that are in pretty good shape. They seem to be briging good money though, $3,500+/- Theres a k20 burb for $2500, think it even had a sidewinder on it.

Dont forget chevy305 y'all above the mason dixon have some horribly cold winterweather and these ol diesels need to be kept plugged in or goodluck on startin em..but they are reliable

I have started mine in 10 below not plugged in no problem.

Several times. Pluggin in helps for sure and I do for the most part but mine will start unless its about 25 below

Yeah I've started mine at -30 un-plugged just have to cycle the glow plugs a few times.

Plugging them in does help though they will start with out cycling the plugs at all

The coldest I could ever expect where I live is single digits. In very rare cases will it drop below 0 at night.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the cold starting thats more of a myth then anything else.

they used 6.2's and 6.5's on the North Slope of Alaska for years . there rock solid and reliable .

For a driver you consider a IFS truck with a Turbo 6.5 93-94 non electronic with a NV4500 is really nice combo I have a 93 Ex-Cab and its been a good truck

I have a 98 too but the electronic pump has given me some greif

I'm not opposed to the ifs 2 door tahoes. More power and better creature comforts. I did find a few diesel k5s on Craigslist so I'll have to check them out.
