WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

I bought a new rotor for my dana 60 put it on the hub and slid it on the spindle and it hits the caliper bracket. I thought it was a rotor for a dual rear wheel but that one is even thicker. My old one is about a 1/4" thiner but this new one is the same part # that I get from all the parts stores. Anyone had this problem?

Thanks
Lucas

The caliper bracket is behind the spindle like it's supposed to be, right?

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

No it doesn't fit that way and there are definate marks that show the spindle on then the caliper bracket. I tried to switch them and the caliper braket doesn't set flush to the knuckle.

Tim is incorrect. It is knuckle, spindle, then caliper bracket in that order and no other. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

My caliper brackets are put on after the spindle and its all together. Your saying this is incorrect?

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

I have an exploded view from the gm dealership and it has the caliper bracket on the outside of the spindle also.

This is going to start to confuse some people.

Lets assume you are looking at the axle from the side and are about to take it apart. First would be the caliper bracket, next would be the spindle, then finally the knuckle. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I just went outside and verified this, which is different than what i posted a few minutes ago. Sorry my mistake. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

A mistake made by many....Is the right side caliper bracket switched with the left side?

What am I thinking about the Dana 60 that is ass backwards in relation to putting this stuff together them?

Grrr...this is going to kill me until I figure it out.

Brandon C had his incorrectly assembled a while back.

There is something about putting together a D60 that is backwards compared to a 10 bolt. I could swear that the caliper bracket goes behind the spindle. (between spindle and knuckle)

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

IIRC
10b/d44= knuckle-spindle-backingplate
dana 60= knuckle-spindle-backingplate

i have no d60 here to confirm that though /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

here is branndonc's post with his problem dana 60

If it wasn't dark I'd go pull my tires off just to see. This is pissing me off because I can't remember. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

I just replaced my drivers side knuckle and it is Knuckle,Spindle, caliper bracket. throw the dust sheilds in the trash. all they do is collect mud. are you sure the bracket is not backwards??????? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

Absolutely, without a doubt, the caliper bracket goes on the outside of the spindle.

I agree, it sounds like the caliper bracket is backwards. Do the "horns" on the caliper bracket bend inward toward the spring (correct) or out away from the truck (incorrect)?

Re: WTF! Dana 60 rotor ?\'s

I had the caliper brakets on the wrong side at first but now they are right. The confusing part of this has been missed I think. I have one side completely assembled and it works, the other side I bought a new rotor for is the one that rubs , the rotor is thicker but all the parts stores say it the right one.
