So I dropped a brand new 383 strocker new everything gas pump, oil pumb, cam, cranckshaft and a brand spanking new edlebrock thunder series AVS 650 cfm manual choke carb well after driving it for about 60 miles it stalled and low and ****ing behold it was on FIRE flames shooting out of the carb and i called edlebrock and I said what the f**k and they basically told me to get f**ked for the time being so to all running that carb do becarfull hopefully it was just a fluke

99% chance that its your fault that the carb caught fire.

Did you tune the carb at all?

What's the fuel pressure?

How many degrees of timing?

My 1406 caught fire too... of course it was probably because I was tuning it while hot, and then forgot to reconnect the fuel line properly because it was getting dark and I was in a hurry.

It took about 45 seconds to cause months of work... :doah: :haha:

I'm gonna say it was your fault to.

They sell millions of those parts and when they catch fire it's something the user did or didn't do.

I've got the same carb...except with an electric choke. It's been on fire atleast 3 times. 2 were my fault, the other I was in a off camber situation and the motor backfired and lit it up. I've never really had any other troubles with it.

Had a fire on a 1406 once. It was due to me messin' with the timing while the motor was running.

I've had a couple 1406's and never had any problems. Even after they sit for a long time, and they get bolted to a motor without freshening them up, no fires here.

Are you guys running air cleaners?? The only time i had a fire was when i wasn't running the breather :dunno: Other than that when it'd backfire no actual fire

The two that were my fault...no. I was adjusting the timming and had the air cleaner off.

The one where it did it on it's own had one on. Burned my K&N real quick.

i'm gonna say he forgot to swap out that old air in the cylinders before reinstalling everything, new engines don't like that old stale air running around inside them for a very long time.

old air with fresh fuel most likely cause the fire to start.

edelbrock's are very picky about fuel pressure anything over 7 or 8 PSI and it forces the needle open and over fills the float bowl which an cause a fire

especially at higher RPM's (like highway speeds ) where the pump is pushing out way more fuel than the engine is using

Get a fuel pressure regulator you NEED one even with a stock fuel pump
