WTF?!?! Warn Lock Out snap ring....

Does that snap ring go around the hub body to hold it in, or is it the one that holds the locking gear into the hub body? never seen one like that to hold it in /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Dude, I hear ya, I feel your pain. Welcome to Warn 35 spline D60 lockouts /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, if that's what you have. The way the hubs are designed (yuk), there is very little room between the lockout and the hub. Basically, you have to use those spiral rings, because the standard snap ring (mine were spicers) won't fit. I know, I tried. To get the spiral ring in is difficult, at best, and very difficult to get back out without destroying it. Kinda sucks.

Don't feel bad, I have hubs in my 30 spline 60, and behind me within arms reach I've got a set of 35 spline flanges, and all of them use that same crappy BS spring thing.

It's not the snap rings fault, those will work good, like Russ said. You just have to have enough room for em. Warns casting is no good, it gets in the way.

I wonder if it's a diff between the slugs and the lock outs? I just don't understand what everyone is unhappy with unless there is a difference...

Ahh, I guess that answered my question... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Your slug is flush with the snap ring groove in the hub, No?

With the lockouts, there's a step in the casting, that sits further outboard, past the hub groove. There's about 1/8" of room all the way around to angle the spring steel into.

Hard to get out? I don't know what to say, but my Warn 35 spline slugs have those and I couldn't be happier. Requires nothing but a small flat blade screw driver or pick to pop them right out. Stick the tip of the screw driver or pick under the little "toe" on the end of the coil, raise it up out of the groove, lever the tool up and behind the coil to get it started coming out, and slide the tool around the hub to walk the rest out. Takes all of about 3 seconds to remove without needing special lock ring pliers or fighting those heavy ass single round (as opposed to coiled) clips that you have to fight with multiple screw drivers and/or needle nose. Not that the old ones were really difficult (more frustrating than anything), but I *LOVE* these new Warn rings...

double ditto. after doing it a couple times i can get the hubs completly apart in about 30 seconds.get yourself a cheap pick set and it makes it alot easier.

its funny tho causs our pro mechanic that knows everything couldnt figure out how to get the big ring out(the one that fits into the groove of the hub) he thought it was a regular snap ring with the tabs broken off.

yeah, 35spline lockouts/stubs. So the regular snap ring wont work? Yeah, there is NO room to get that damn ring out. I f'd up one of them getting it out, so I guess I am gonna have to buy a whole kit now /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif At least I'll have a spare /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif what a pain in the arse!

If I remember I'll take a pic when I get it back together so you can see the lack of room

[/ QUOTE ] Nope, it's too wide /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif [ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ] Good idea, I don't think some of the guys get the picture. Good luck man.

what about a 'thinner' snap ring? I mean if I take the 'normal' snap ring from a set of 30 spline hubs and match the diamter up with the thinner one...if there is such a thing /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
One of my coil snap rings is still good. I'll slap that side back together and take a picture so you can see it.

How many that 'love' the coil snap ring are using them with 35 spline hubs/stubs? Just curious.

I don't know if I would go to the trouble of trying to grind out a snap ring to fit... Maybe call warn up, and see what they have to say about it. You never know.

Put that damn snap ring down and get up here and get this Blazer............... /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif huh...what...who....me /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Pm me your numbers /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

not saying grind one...I was just wondering if they make a thinner version of it. I called warn, they say a normal snap ring wont fit and they are sending me a 'wave' ring to replace the one I f'd up /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Circlips
no you cannot swap in the old style as the old styles are thicker and they changed the casting to use the Circlips
I did that a few years ago with warrantee hubs
once you get the circlips part number they are dirt cheap from a bearing house, like $2.00 rather then paying Warn's pricing for stuff you do not need
I think I posted the part number and sizes on here for a d60
if not I can look for the reciept in my truck file
