I want to run waste veggie oil in by 6.2 blazer. I have a source for oil but need an answer whether I can use it or not. Its a Taco Bueno...The manager said they dump about 10 gallons of veg oil and 100 gallons of meat grease a week. My problem is Can I use the mixture because they wont separate it. He said there is definately water in it from when they clean up......So can I use this meat grease?

I'm not sure that it's a good idea to run the meat Grease, Esc if there is water in it. Now maybe you can filter it out???

Oh yes I will be doing that for sure...I just want to make sure this oil will work and not cause problems as it is my daily driver

Do an internet search for some of the biodiesel and WVO forums out there.

Be warned though, OPINIONS VARY!

I'm working on a wvo system for my 6.2L Blazer as well. I'm going to blend it with petrodiesel. I have secured a restaurant and will be supplying them with a barrel. I plan to "treat" it with diesel and stabilizer so it doesn't freeze and then tap off of that barrel to take home. From there I'll send it through my filtering system into my storage tank. Hopefully, using gravity wherever I can, I'll avoid dealing with extra pumps/filters/etc.

This guy is selling some really neat collection lids for 55 gal. drums. I will most likely fabricate something like this:

It's been my understanding that vegetable oil is good but animal fat/oil is not. Granted I haven't done a lot of research on the animal fat issue... so please report back here what you find.

There was someone else on this forum who was running between 80% veggie oil and 50% veggie oil mixed with diesel depending on ambient temperatures. You may want to do some searching here as well to see what you find.

You can use it, but as suggested before, you really should search the web for WVO and biodiesel. Lots of decisions to make and everybody has an opinion:doah:

Well after alot of reading, I dont think I want to go biodiesel...I would rather heat it and go. Dont really want to mix. Im collecting all the parts now.

I'd also line up a secondary source, or at least check it out, would be a pain to do the conversion and loose your supplier for whatever reason:(

I've seen pics of a WVO conversion in a Blazer, just can't remember where:doah:

This has been asked before. I'm going to cut & paste my reply from another thread - check out the link I put in that reply:

IMO SVO/WVO is the worst thing you can do to a diesel engine designed to run on #2 diesel. Neither the injection hardware nor the engine itself is designed for a fuel that viscous (even heated it is still much thicker than #2) . On top of that, the veggie oil molecule contains components called glycerides which won't burn completely in most engines (and end up in the oil via blowby), leading to gumming, coking, and eventual failure. Here's an example: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=186108

There are plenty of other sad stories like that one. There are people who say our older IDI's will tolerate WVO/SVO. Well, they will run longer than the newer engines, but they will still eventually succumb. Just because Rudolf ran his on peanut oil doesn't automatically mean veggie oils are acceptable for all diesels. IIRC, Diesel's engine used air blast injection. Large marine "cathedral" diesels also use air blast injection to help atomize the heavy "bunker fuel" oil that they run on. That's why these engines can run on fuels that would destroy any engine designed for #2.

Anyway, I just figured I would pass on the warning. It's your engine, and your choice. I just figured I would point out that the "savings" of veggie oil don't pan out in the long run.
