i wanted a way o lock up my pistol and not have to worry abut going in some store without it. so my mom bought this. She let me se it and measure it and now i have to wrap it.

How does this compare to the tuffy console. Just wondering because I just installed bucket seats and am looking for a metal locking console. I am planning to use ammo cans or something of the sort.

I have seen a few vids where tuffy does not lock. You tube search and youll see. Not to mention its more than twice as much.

I need one but really like my factory console, thinking of welding up a small box with a lock to bolt down inside the front portion of my factory console.....but still tossing around ideas.

ya i am but not putting it in the blazer when its cold, sad part is im going to have to do a ring and pinion swap in December with no garage on both front and rear axle. I think im going to rent a kerosene heater from home depot

My tuffy, that looks the same as the one in the video, definitely doesn't do that. I just went out and tried because you posted that video! Had me nervous for a quick minute.

i didnt want to take a chance, im sure tuffy makes a great product. the lock in the smitty built is differant. i wish i took a pic of it,maybe i can find it

My Tuffy box has the older round key lock. The latch does not look anything similar to the video. Mine locks without a problem. When it is locked there is no way to get in.
I haven't seen the Smittybuilt box before. Looks a little less "industrial" than the Tuffy, it's a little more OE looking. It might be a little narrow for a K5 but looks good.

Search for car gun boxes on eBay. Lots of decent options that you don't have to make. I have a couple of the small tuffy faceplate size boxes still I think, that I was going to mount in my console. Pm me if interested.

i have heard that the tuffy box is heavier gauge than smittys but ill take what i get when mom gets it for me
Thanks for the idea! That is exactly what I had in mind, I could use a small hole saw with some washers to bolt one of them through the cab and I can keep my factory console. Awesome!
Nothing against the Smitty, looks like it's a solid unit. Even better for a xmas gift.
Guess we got to wait to see installed pics.
