What year truck did you put an XJ Shaft on? I want non-modifications, direct bolt on (with notching column side), stock columns and steering boxes. EX: mine fit my '85, and as far as I can tell it had stock parts.

Since I'm retarded and can't figure out how to make a poll, here's what we'll do. Copy and paste, old school. :D:doah:

basically I'm just trying to narrow this down some, since I try to send these out from time to time. I have a local that wants one I pulled already, but he has a '79 and I don't think it will work. I have never read anything definitive about year fitment, so a poll seems like the next best thing.

Didn't fit the column end on my '74. Believe that column end goes for some years, i.e. 73-77 or 73-79. Box I think was okay.

None are a direct bolt on. The steering column needs to be grooved to accept the pinch bolt.

86 K30, fit fine ( once notched), I am using an 87 2wd box (crossover) and now an 87 column :D

So, 86 k30 and 87 c10 :waytogo:

Fit my 89 k5 and an 88 k5 I used to have. Both needed to have the end of the column notched

Done it on 2 '88 k5's, '89 1 ton, '90 suburban. Don't remember doing anything different on any of them from one to the other. Have another '90-'91 suburban to do soon don't expect it will be any different.

After notching it fit on my '86. Are we all forgetting about having to heat and collapse it a bit? I know I had to on mine, and read beforehand that it was necessary.

FWIW heating it just enough to let it squish to the length you need is te bee's knees. All this hullabaloo I read about people melting it out and drilling and adding bolts and stuff is just crazy town IMO. it took all of 5 minutes to heat it and squish it, and it's solid as a rock still, and will still collapse in the event of a collision.

Just my .02 :)

1986 k5 cucv and the bolt rubs on the steering box shaft. I need a smaller diameter to fit correctly. This is with a 2wd psc box.

Somebody post a pic of this notch please

Picking one up here shortly

you're smart enough Adam to figure it out
the bolt that holds the top to the column, wont go through, grab a file and file the column side a little, done

Fit on my '71...after a bit more modification than just notching.
The original column is splined at the end so i had to cut the internal splined portion off the old shaft and grind 2 flat spots that were 180* from eachother and 90* from where the original pinch bolt went. After alot of fitment it slid right on and closed up nice and tight.
Even though a bit of work...still a better deal that the borgeson shaft

So '71 Jimmy with modification

I'll be at my shop this afternoon and I will get a pic for you :waytogo:

Oh and just to complicate the list , and XJ shaft will fit a Summit Racing column (after notching) and the other end will attach to a 89 Wagooner steering box :D all installed in a 53 Willys Wagon body on a 62 frame  :haha:

This is another column that has been notched for an xj shaft.

IIRC I used a dremel to do the notches, you dont need to remove a lot of metal, just enough to get the bolt in.
