Hey everybody. So I finally got the 1 tons in the K5, but now I believe I am expieriencing the dreaded death wobble. Basically, what happens is my truck shakes like a mofo from about 10 mph to 30 mph and ten will smooth out. Doesn't seem to be effected by braking either. Also, it tends to pull to the left pretty hard from time to time too. Oh yea, the truck has ORD crossover too.

So my plan of attack on this problem is to first try shimming the KP spprings with fender washers first. Then replacing tie rod ends and getting a good alignment. Any other ideas? The tires are 37s and are balanced pretty well.

Also, I have what looks almost like a lift block under the steering arm. What gives with that? You guys think I need it? The guy I bought the axles from had them in a K5 with about 8~10 inches of lift, and mine has about 5. I only left it on cause I figured I would not monkey with it if I didn't have to. I am at work right now, but if I need to I can post up some pictures of this block when I get home.

Also do you think I should just replace the kingpins? Can you do just the nylon piece and the spring in the top to help with DW or is it one of those do-it-right-the-first-time deals? I don't tend to half ass my K5 EVER, but I have never done the lower kingpins, and it looks like a bitch from wat I have seen.

Thanks guys,

Check ORD I am pretty sure you can buy the bushings and springs seperatly, unless your upper kingpins are bad, there is no point in replacing the kingpins themselves. The uppers are the PITA, the lowers are not to bad to do but you will have to disassemble everything to do the uppers. The block under the steering arm is most likely due to the amount of lift that was on the previos truck, ORD's standard crossover kit is designed for 8" and less lift, if you are running more you must go with the "tall truck" crossover kit.

I would think so, you will most likely have to put shorter bolts/studs (which ever you are using) back in once you remove the block.

Did I miss the part where he said he was using crossover? If it's got stock steering, then he may need the block depending on what angle the drag link runs at.

Guess I'll try it.
Gonna shim me some kingpin springs and add the stabilizer this weekend and see if that helps at all.

I'd check all the tie rods ends and wheel bearings before I did anything else. The shims and stabilizer just mask problems in other parts.
