Hey, I hope i get the numbers right.

For those of you using a 63 inch leaf spring for the rear of a 4x4 chevy.

The plan for me is the tested and proven 52 front and 63 rear on my 86 chevy K30. Im only trying for 3-5 inch of lift in the end

How important is it for the 63 be a good spring (new)? or is it better to find a used, somewhat worn spring to use with a 63 and a shackle flip?

I ask cuz I have some springs from the rear of a 97 Suburban i would like to use but they are pretty soft in the burban.

thanks in advance,

I don't know if all the Suburbans got the same spring or not , but when I was upgrading my 99 Sub to a 3/4 ton rear , I couldn't use the 63's from the 3/4 ton since my Sub had 60 inch springs . Measure your 97's springs .

What's the GVW of the donor? I wouldn't use a 3 leaf + overload 64" spring pack (1/2 ton pickup) unless they were brand new, or if the rear of your rig is lightweight. A LD 3/4 pickup 64" (4 leaves + overload) spring is more appropriate for the weight on the back tires of a K5 considering the top.

They are really low spring rate leaves, so they're going to be prone to axle wrap unless you run the right size spring pack.

Agreed. I put a 3 plus overload 63's in the back of my rig, its not that it sagged but it was way too soft, i know i know that was the idea right. Well after driving a few miles on it i yanked the overload and threw in the lowermost leaf and the overload from my old 52's , it now rides better than before and trust me it still flexes like a champ. If i were to do it again id get a pair from a 3/4ton. But free was free.
