OK. So I have been searching for awhile now and just need confirmation as I get confused easily.:D

I have a D44 from my '72 Blazer and have a set of 8 lug external lockout hubs to swap in (Don't know the year of 8 lug hubs). Am I correct to think that I will need new spindles too as my '72 has the smaller diameter spindles and the 8 lug hubs have the larger diameter spindles on the "73-up 3/4 ton hubs? Would the chevy dealer even carry the bigger spindles or what years can I get the proper sized larger splinle from? If you have the bigger spindles and or warn external lockouts too and I do need them please PM me.

I did the swap on my 74 chev. It should be the same as the 72. I used everything from the ball joints out. If you have all these items it is very easy. Good luck! Wayne

dont ask your friends to run to the junk yard with you to grab whatever you need.

AFAIK, you can still use your small bearing spindles, you will just need the small bearings for an 8 lug. which will have a larger outer surface.
If you already have bearings in the rotors, and they came off of a big bearing spindle, either get the big bearing spindle, or replace the inner bearings w/ 8 lug bearings from small bearing spindle.

The dealer would not be my first choice. Craigslist, somebody here, junkyard, whatever.

You might want to source a matching set of spindles, bearings, hubs. Doesn't so much matter what year -- could be from an 8-lug 10 bolt even -- but saves you hassle replacing parts down the line.

Hoby, in case you've forgotten, I have all that stuff sitting in the yard. Compare spindles when you take it apart. If they're different, the only thing you should need is the spindle (and bearings if you don't have them, but I would buy new anyway). Let me know if you need them, and I could throw them in the truck on the next run. Do you have the caliper brackets? I have those for a D44 also if you need them.:D These aren't really parts I expect to need spares of.

Cool thanks Chris. The only things I seem to need are the spindles if I hvae the smaller diameter ones and the lockouts. Do you have a set of external lockouts to sell too? Seems like Vee also has the larger spindles too.

I have a set of Spicer lockouts, but the plastic part broke on one of them. It wouldn't unlock any more.:doah: That's why I ended up using the Warns that were on the parts truck.
