99 mornings out 100, my 6.2 starts after ten seconds of automatic glow plug and one second of cranking, no smoke and never a problem for the rest of the day....However, the other morning, it didn't. I cranked on that beast 15 seconds on, 15 seconds off (glow plugs cycling each time) for several minutes before it finally lit. After it lit, it didn't want to keep running and I feathered the pedal to keep it going. After about a minute it settled down and ran fine the rest of the day. I puzzled over what was up for the rest of the day. Then I remembered that the night before the hard start episode, I had started the engine from cold and run it for about only a minute, just to back up ten feet to make room for trash cans on the curb. A couple weeks went by and no more problems. Last night I ran an experiment. The truck had been sitting with the windows down for about 10 hours and I stared it just for a minute to run them up. Sure enough...this morning it didn't want to start. Same drill, as a couple weeks ago. So... has anybody else experienced this?

Well when you run a diesel for a couple of minutes, it's not warm enough to do a clean burn so now your injectors are covered in soot, maybe even the glow plugs, might even be some unburnt fuel in the chamber so it will be a little harder to start, that is why if I do run a diesel i will let it idle for a minute or 2 then kick it in high idle to burn off anything in there and then idle it back for 10 seconds or so, then shut off. Never shut off after high idle or after driving hard, let sit at idle for 10 seconds then shut off.
Try that and see what you get.
