I will be ordering some hummer wheels tmrw and I want to know if any of you are running these without the runflats or PVC inserts. I'm pretty sure this is ok to do but I just want to double check. These will be for a truck that never goes off-road, more for looks. Also can someone recommend a place to get the 2 inch wheel spacers to run these on my m1009 after I swap to 3/4 ton axles.

Thanks

I don't see where it would be a problem to run without inserts...

I used Freds' adapters....

He can custom make them any size you want!

If you want the runflats without paying any more for them I can help.

I have a full set of the magnesium inserts just sitting here.

Yes, the wheels can be used without any type of insert. TARussell ran some on his old K5 like that for a couple of years.

The product looks great but holy Cr$p $370 a pair!! No way can I drop $740 on wheel spacers! Any other cheaper alternatives? I might have to rethink my wheel choice lol

I have been running ebay special 3" non hub centric aluminum on my narrow C&C rear to make it srw width and over 5 years no problems.

With no insert, they are like any other 16.5" wheel, except no need for a mount/dismount machine. However the insert sets the bead for you. Without it you need a traditional bead-setting method when mounting the tires.

ya look like all the generic ebay ones.

fyi those are 88-up style metric thread stud/nuts.
Whoops, thanks for pointing that out

Kind of a big heavy wheel for looks, not?

Martin
They are going on my 86 M1009 which is 3 color camo, and rocking the 10ft tall dual military antennas. So it kinda fits the style :pimp:

fyi 16.5 don't need tire machine anyways . stupid easy to swap off rims with 2 prybars. :thumb:

and bead break down is let air out and step on bead / sidewall and it should come right down .

How much of a spacer is required to clear the 3/4 ton brakes and backing plate?

wouldnt that put excess load on the wheel bearings?

The leverage (excess load) on the wheel bearing is determined based on the location of the wheel centerline.

H1 Hummer wheels have 7" backspacing. If you install a 2" spacer it's the equivalent of running any other wheel with only 5" backspacing as the wheel centerline is now at the same location between them. So no, running spacers (reasonable 2"-3" width) on stock H1 Hummer wheels put no more leverage on the bearings than the "normal" wheels with around 4-5" backspacing.

Not sure if rumor or not, but I heard h1s without an insert can lead to a loss of the inner bead, as the tire isn't pinched on the backside...

I run PVC inserts on mine FWIW

With no insert, you can loose either bead. That's what you need to beadlock these wheels. If I happen to stumble across something local, I will pick some up. But I don't take this truck offroad (might take it to the CK5 Dune party)

Ok so I'm ready to order these. All I'm seeing is metric lug stud or 9/16" lug stud options. 9/16"s is what I want correct? I'm swapping in a 8-lug 10-bolt from a 1980 k20 and the rearend is a 14bff from an early 80s k20.
