I am always trying to see new options.

Anyone ever try yj (lift) springs on the front of a first gen?
They seem to be the same measurements as our stockers and there is a huge after market for them. They are a tad bit soft, but that might go nice with my 63" rears.

I couldn't see the point. We have plenty to chose from as far as lift springs go. TC EZ-rides are pretty soft BUT are made to handle the weight of our trucks.

not so true for the first gens, TC only makes one spring for all of the first gen style trucks from k5's to k30's and it has a rate of somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 lbs/in.
Im not saying I am going to go that way, I just like to think about new ideas sometimes

The EZ rides are super soft and handle well.

With my EZ rides and Bilstien 5100's the truck rides like a big soft cloud, but around a corner at speed the lean is minimal. And thats without swaybars, which will never go back on this truck.

Hey Scottishdave, I'm not trying to come across as calling B.S. or anything, but how many leaves are in your springs? The reason I ask is that I have a set of TC 4" springs on my '70 that I bought in 1998 and they have only 3. At that time, Tuff Country said they were the E-Z rides but they are horrible for me even with the big block. So after way too much time putting up with them, I ordered a set from ORD last week. I am just putting in my .02 and wondering if the T-C springs have changed?

ohh never knew that. Interesting they would do such a thing, 500# is a lot, even my TC HDs aren't rated for that much IIRC. I would still go with custom leafs or got TC and remove the bottom leaf. :dunno:

Give us some details about the Jeep springs. Could be interesting how close they might be. Only takes someone trying it, liking it, and catching on. :waytogo:

Three....Like I said, Truck rides like a dream.

TC EZ-Ride Spring rate = 295 Number of Leaves = 3

TC HD's Spring rate = 395 Number of Leaves = 4

Off of a chart in the CK5 Tech area...

That being said, It looks a bit odd when every other spring on there is no less that around 400 and the EZ rides were listed in the 200's. So it was either a typo on whoever made the chart, or old info.

Either way, they ride nice:waytogo:

Whats really the differance between the 1rst and 2nd gen front springs:dunno: there both 47" right? If they are why cant you put 2nd gen ones on a 1rst gen? way more options available it seems

No, first gen fronts are shorter eye-to-eye. I don't remember the exact length, but they are shorter.

On a side note I have toyota front springs on mine. I haven't gotten to drive it yet but it's sitting about right...

200 lb/in springs are going to be REALLY soft on a K5.

I ran 240lb/in custom ORDs and it was borderline streetable...tons of body roll on the street, especially with a shacklefip rear setup. I'm all for trying new things, but I doubt the results are going to be as good as you think.

300lb/in seems like a much better target for a dual-purpose truck. IMHO

yup. I tried putting later model springs on one time, assuming they were the same. no bueno.

I have the EZ ride springs in mine and I love them, but be careful if you try to tow anything heavy... it can get squirly.

Well nuts, this doesn't help me figure out why mine rides so poorly!! But at this point I guess I won't worry about it, I just wait for ORD to call me and say I can drive across town to pick-up my new ones from Alcan.

why not use a diy4x b52 kit and then run 47" 73-91 springs via the stock hole or 1 hole forward position . ? :dunno:

not sure if this would be ideal but idea.

I thought about that option but after thinking about time and money for the kit then tuning the spring pack,( I figured why not use some of the 52's lying aroung here) and a thread a few weeks ago that discussed 52's vs. custom, I decided custom for less front overhang and possibly less changing of parts. I definitly think the DIY kit is an option.
