what's the pro's and con's of a slip yoke vs. a fixed yoke? is there a major difference?

The slip yoke is a bogus design. It has no pro's. The fixed yoke is the way to go.

Slip yoke, if the shaft brakes your stuck less you wanna drive around with no fluid in your T-case.
Slip yoke, if you have a "really" flexy suspension, your slip yoke could slip out of the back of the T-case.
Slip yoke, the spline wear down after a while and cause a binding clunk noise when releasing the brakes from stopping.
Fixed yoke, eliminates all those problems.
