So, a lot of people seem to find 210 compressors for like $30...I can't. I browse for them occasionally, but I've never hunted too much. I did finally find a 209 today at a bone yard for $60. Rotating it pushed air out, so at least it's not trash. Should I nab that instead of waiting for a 210? its 8.7 cu in instead of 10.3 like the 210. It obviously doesn't turn out the same volume, but it still seems pretty good, and better than any electric pump. What do you think? Are 210s more rare or harder to find?

If you've been looking for a 210 for awhile with no luck then just grab the 209.

i have a IR air compressor in my shop thats 9.0 cfm at 175 psi .

all i can say is if thats what i have to pick from then no problems . i used it for a few months for my work and was totaly happy .

the reason i dont use it as much now is 2 fold . 1 its waiting to get a new home in the shop . and i have a bigger IR thats 19 cfm at 175 psi i got for a deal on craigs list .the demands of my home fab / work shop went way up with my want to do my own media blasting at home soon . so i needed bigger was all .

you should be totaly happy with the 209 for trail use and a 3-5 gal tank for filling tires / lug nut work / blow up air mattress .

Yup, the bigger one that would have come on 73-85 trucks cars etc. Officially its like a Sanderson or some thing.

Haven't ever tried to run air tools maybe could. Not the CFM that a York does but not bad. It will air up my 40's fine at idle. So fast that it will over pressure the valve in between tires if you are not fast.

Its in Twinkies build. Just not sure what I wrote about it.

I really like it because the pump is factory, the brackets are factory, the belt is factory.

And it works for anything I have ever needed. May have to try the air tool thing one day though.

The only issue with that style of compressor is that it does not have a self contained oil system so if you don't put some oil in it every time you use it the compressor will eventually lock up on you. The York is like an engine whereas it has an "oil pan" so the compressor components are always being lubricated.

I saw a home made air compressor someone made out of a Tecumseh engine,a horizontal shaft about 3.5 HP...guy did some reworking of the valves I guess, and he mounted it on his truck's engine,he used it to do mobile tire service..he said he looked for a Tecumseh 2 cylinder A/C compressor from an old Mopar car in salvage yards but only found a few junk ones --he noted they looked almost like a small gas engine, and he had one off a reel type lawn mower,so he figured out how to plumb it up and make it work as a compressor..

We had guys come in the junkyard looking for the older GM "Frigidaire" log style A/C compressors, they used them at the track to pump up tires and run air tools--I don't know what they did for an oil supply though, but they seemed to work well..

I run a pre filter with oil in it. So when it sucks the air the air has oil in it. Hasn't given me a issue yet been that way for like 10 years or so.

Granted I dont use it all that much either. I figure that if I burns up I will put in one of my other three that I have. :)

If I needed something that required a lot if use I would do a York. If you are just using one for tires and not to often I would do this again.

The 210's are harder to find. I have 2 of the smaller ones, I found 1 on a 70's ford truck and the other came off a 70's Jeep wagoneer. The 210s came on old Volvo's and I'm not sure what else. But as you can imagine 70s ford trucks and jeeps are much more plentiful than volvo's (at least by me)
