I've got a York compressor on my a/c system. It's making a whistling noise between 1500-2500 rpms. Sounds like blowing into the top of a beer bottle. Pitch changes sometimes. It doesn't happen all the time. I took the belt off and it stopped. Replaced it with a new belt and the whistle is back.

What should I check next?

Sounds like it could be a bad bearing in the pulley. It could be a leak in the system too but I'd put my money on a bad bearing...
