I was thinking of this the other day...after looking at the clear 14ff covers for my rear end I was thinking it would be super cool if a company made clear valve covers...then I found this video...
Not really anything to do with my search but still thought it was worth sharing...it's always fun to see the mechanical side of things...

Clear valve covers have been around for about 20 years. Do a search and you should find them. I don't know if they are made anymore but 20 years ago they did exist.

cool...I know it has no real purpose but stuff like that is amusing to me...

It'll make a real mess though, with the valvesprings and rockers flinging oil all over the place. So if you do have clear valve covers, you wouldn't be able to see in 'em after a few runs on the motor. A vanity item, more or less, just like the clear diff covers.

I don't know if they make 'em already, but it'd be pretty cool if someone would make some thick steel diff covers with equally thick lexan as a little window, like a 1"x4" cut-out in the diff cover for the lexan in a spot that would take the least amount of damage, but would still show you your fluid levels. If no one makes one already, I've got dibs on the patent! :p:

actually, ive seen a video of a bulldozer trying to break a clear plastic 14ff diff cover with its blade and it wasnt happening... i would trust the clear plastic one over a chrome tin one any day of the week... nate

Yea one of the 4x4 magazines did a diff cover test awhile ago. I remember them driving over the diff covers with a bulldozer. I think they even shot the covers with a shotgun too!!

yeah those clear ones are supposed to be tough stuff. ill stick with zeh metal though.

I'm not at home right now but when I get there I've got the page bookmarked that sells them...lots of $$$ but way cool.

I believe he was trying to figure out what was wrong with his engine...so he made a movie w/ the valve covers off so people could see/hear it better...something along those lines.

to avoid makin such a mess, you can take an old valve cover and cut the top of it off, put it on, run it and adjust, it's a little cleaner.

I have a couple different sets of vc's down in the garage with windows cut out of them.. A nescessity when running solids...

Oil deflector clips work fine too, got a couple sets of those...

Yeah...thats why I bought my 14ff diff cover from ruff stuff. What happened in that pic above will never happen to mine.

Yeah...I thought everybody knew that. I saw the title of this post and was like o man.....there are people out there that dont know you can run without valve covers. Makes a heck of a mess though.
