A pic of my Dad's 70. He bought it in 71, when we moved (back) to Alaska. It had the 250 six, and three on the tree! lol. I actually learned to drive on it. He had it until about 4 years ago. He kept it bone stock the whole time, with the exception of adding power steering and HEI. Pops is 91 now, and still going strong. As far as I know the truck is too, he sold it to a cousin of mine.

Here is crappy pic of me and my sis in front of it. Probably about 1975.

And yeah, with the 250 and a 3 speed, we hauled that camper all over the place. From Palmer down to San Diego one time.

Awesome! I like Alaska. I even have some Alaskan sheet metal on my K10. :thumb:

Wow! How did you end up with that?

I was born on Elmendorf AFB. We left Alaska for awhile, then moved back.

Then moved again. That Blazer toured all of Anza Borrego, and Johnson Valley/Landers area in Cali. That's why, in fact, my parents retired in Joshua Tree.

My uncle and his son own Matanuska Towing and Recovery. My sis still lives in Anchorage.

Nice story! :thumb:

My story is that my Mom was born on Fort Wainwright (back in the territorial days :)) I still have a string of relatives between Fairbanks, Anchorage, and outlying areas. I've been up there 7 or 8 times, and plan to go back someday (not sure when).

My parents worked the pipeline in the summer of '76. In his spare time my Dad pieced together a 1967 C10 (nobody knows why such a young truck was so thoroughly disassembled). They brought the truck with them when they moved down to the lower 48. It eventually was chopped into a trailer. The trailer got retired (because the wood rotted). I came along and snagged the step-side bed box for my K10. Truly a family heirloom. You can see pictures of it in Big Blue's thread. I don't have many pictures of the build, so the thread is mostly trip pictures.

They still have the '67 frame sitting in the weeds waiting for the next project to come along.

That is fantastic! I think it's cool your parents were working there when I lived there. I'll check out the thread!

My Gpa has a junkyard up there, I've always thought it would make an epic trip to bring something back from there. Always been afraid to calculate the cost of hauling it, thought. :doah:

Lemme know if you want more pictures. I have pictures of both the truck and more trips through the Northwoods. But I never feel like posting them unless folks ask.

Yeah. that's a long damn trip. I went over the Alcan a couple times. Both when it was all gravel. Broken windshield both times lol.

I hear it is a lot better now, but still. Thats a long haul.

Me? Of course!! I'd love to see them. When you can.

Might I just add, have any of you ever tried explaining a 3 on the tree to a kid at Big O tires? I have. lol.

I am highly unmotivated when it comes to posting trip pictures. My trip threads are something like 7,000 miles behind my actual road trip schedule at this point...

So reminders (in each of the 4 or 5 threads) are worth a lot.

That is awesome, and it's still in such nice shape! Thanks for sharing. :waytogo: Got any more old pics of it?
I still have my dad's '72 Blazer that he bought new but it's in need of a rebuild and not running right now. It has been stored indoors though waiting for me. When I do a frame off I'll do a build thread and post lots of pics. I even found the bill of sale a while ago along with all the cancelled checks from the payments.

I used to work at a Big O Tires, and I drove a 70 with the 3 on the tree:haha:

No one I worked with knew what it was.

I had to be real gentle with the shifter, or the linkage would get all crossed up. Usually i could wiggle it around and get it back in place, other times required some tinkering to get it back in shape. But for the most part it worked fine.

Sadly, this is about all I got. Sorry they are so crappy, I need to get them scanned someday.

Old pics are the best, crappy or not. :thumb: Looks like your dad is considering driving up that rock face in the last set of pics.
Wish I had more old pics of my '72. Think I only have 3, one being of when the front end got hit that I hate looking at.
