****in thieves:angry1: . I needed to move some stuff from a storage unit to my house so the wife and I were going to use my K5 and her Mountaineer to make as few trips as possible.

I go to start up my truck and it is dead. No big deal I had not driven it in a while so maybe I left a light on or something. I go to pop the hood and notice that it is already up. Someone stole my ****ing 2 year old battery:angry1: . I do not run inners so I am thinking that they were able to pull on the hood latch cable and get the hood to pop. I really hate my ****ing neighborhood:angry1:.

So the tech question would be. What do I replace it with and how do I secure it. I was thinking about making boxes like Rene did and just do it that way but not sure if I have the time or ability for the fab work. Should I just spend the extra dough now and get a yellow top or go back with a lead acid style?

Thanks

Dik

Growing up my dad had a 7t c30 and lost 2 batteries in 1 week. No hood pop on the inside just the latch through the grill. He ended up buying a 4 foot cable lock, running it through some of the shell framing on the hood and around the bottom of the truck frame. Twice someone had tried to open it with no luck. You just had to unlock the pad lock right under the front bumper to get it open.

Kinda redneck but it worked.

I have been walking around alot with my 500 Mossberg lately for the new neighbors to see. I hope (for them) that they don't cause any probs.

Oh and BTW, Like I have stated before. Thieves are toward the bottom of the totum pole in my book and should have their hands cut off.

What was it again CDA? One SHot , One Kill!

At least on my property.

I have had a yellow top for two years now and I am very pleased. I def wont be puttin any other battery in. as for keeping your battery secure... so they can reach the bolts too take it off the plate? try making a simple U-bolt style battery bracket. It would be harder to take off, plus hold your battery down better for less vibration. then you could always fab the same style bracket and just put a pad lock through one of the holes... redneck, but effective

whats the difference between the yellow top and red top? is the yellow top a deep cycle?

I've got the yellow top as well, and was told that was the way to go if you winch.

Another redneck theft deterent is a good ole' electric fencer. Hook it onto your frame and plug it in. Just remember to unplug it before you yourself decides to touch the truck. By the way, this also works good if your sick of dogs pissin' on your rims! They learn fast!

thanks thats what i thought. that tray seems easy to build not worth 60.00 plus shipping thats for sure. the easiest way would be make a hinge at the fire wall and have a piece come up from the front of the tray with a lock on it. maybe ill make one if i get bored enought this weekend. (not to likely as i have to pull the motor and trans out of the f250 to make room for the big block towing machine! ) and finish making the tube doors for the blazer, and bolt the roll bar in!

I plan to relocate the battery out of the engine compartment. I just need to determine how I want to do it and what battery I want to go with. Optimas are expensive but are AGM and spill proof. That is a plus for me since it will be inside the passenger compartment. I might just have to nut up and make some boxes like Rene.

I've got two yellow tops in my rig and I love them, mine are mounted on my tube bed behind the cab in a tray I made myself. If I still had a K5 body on my rig I would have mounted the batteries in the floor under the rear seat.
