Hello all,
I have been reading and gathering information for a while here and it continues to amaze me how much information you all provide. For that THANK YOU!

My question is this, have any of you tried the "airsoft" plastic pellets as a tire balancer? I have read that it can work very well. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
JR

I just put a bunch in my 42s. I need to take some out though. They are not that loud either. I'm using the .20 gram ones and put in 12oz. Need to back it down to 8-9oz. Hope that works.

Good luck.

Great! That's what I was hoping to hear. It is a cheap fix if it works. I'm going to try it. Guess if I don't like it, I can always remove it. Thanks

I use them to balance my tires.
Use this chart to get the right amount to put in, and then drop them in before the bead is seated.

I have 38.5.14.5x16 Maxxis CreepyCrawlers balanced with 9 oz. of .12 gram air soft pellets, and they are the smoothest tire I have ever run on my K5.
No vibes; the fastest I have had it is 65 MPH.

They are better than the 36" swampers I had weight balanced and the 39 " swampers I used Equal in.

From now on, I will use the pellets in any tire I put on a rim...

Jeff I'm curious why you are pulling some out. I ran ~18oz in each of my old FunCountry 44's and it was great. Right now my 44" TSL's have 20oz of Counteract beads (got them for free :D) and they run smooth as can be. When I talked to the guys at Counteract they recommended 12oz if the tires were new or had really even wear. If they were chunked up they said to add extra. When I asked if 20oz was too much they said it wouldn't hurt anything, it was just added insurance in case I tore a lug off.

When running above 45mph it shakes. I was thinking about taking some out. Maybe I should put more in there? I am using the .20 gram airsoft. Also thinkng the smaller ones. Not to sure, new at this. I do know i need to adjust though. Thoughts?

I would add more not less. I'm running almost twice the beads you are and only 2" taller. The only thing different is I have really wide wheels which makes the tread flatter (side to side) I'm told this may help with the dynamic balance. :dunno:

As far as size goes......size doesn't matter. Do a search for golf ball balancing.....Works great just makes a lot of noise when stopping.

I will add more. I used a Solo cup 3/4 full. Did not measure precisely. I will add more though. Thanks bud!

We have the 14 bolt in with the 38's now on the rear. Waiting on some parts that I have ordered to put the 60 in with cross over steering. As soon as we get done, I will break the tires down and add the air soft beads and see what happens. Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

Update

Ok, here is where we are today. Dana 60 front installed, 14 bolt rear installed, 8" BDS spring lift front and rear, 38" TSL/SX's, 15x12 Barts with 3.5" bs.
TA-DAAAA!!!

money shot:thumb::thumb:

did you grind down your calipers for the 15" rims?

I didn't do them, but yes they have be ground down. The PO of the axles had already taken care of that and a disc conversion on the 14 bolt.

Also, the ORD crossover steering is installed and working really well:thumb::thumb:. I'm super satisfied with their kit and overall quality and fit.

Got the Sub in the shop today to get the king pins replaced and then front end aligned.

Update.....
The air soft bb's work really well. Basically what we ended up doing is spun each wheel and tire on the computer balance machine and whatever the computer said add in wheel weights, we added in air soft bb's. Works like a charm. My tires run very smoothly on the highway and I will never have to worry about losing a wheel weight in a mud hole.:waytogo:
I can honestly recommend this as an effective (and cheep) wheel/tire balancing alternative to conventional lead wheel weights.
