Getting ready to order a set of these, anybody running them? I read somewhere that they dont like to stay fully unlocked....maybe isolated case?

I've been running them on Penny for years. They've been awesome! Mine are the hardcore version that defaults to locked.

Make a tool for them out of a 1in PVC "T" and some extensions for a handle. They are extremely tight to turn. And not only are they an excellent fit and finish, IMO they are a severe PITA to install, so marring up the dial would make for frowny faces. Mine are the 35 spline Hardcore hubs FWIW.

Had them on 1 run so far and no complaints. Actually easier to unlock than my old Spicers. Interested to see if that's a consistent thing or not.

I've been abusing mine for years with zero failures. I put a tremendous amount of torque on them with my doubler and 5.38's in the rocks and they are good as new.
The fit and finish is top notch. If they're tight to turn something it off.

cool, I guess I better get a set ordered. I have seen a set personally that were hard to turn, And pulling the dial out of the cap and lubing the oring made a huge difference. It was put together dry for some reason?

I had to lube the dial on mine as well. Before that I couldn't turn it by hand. Now they are an easy two finger turn.

They turn smooth when clean. The tolorances are tight, so dirt/ rust can make them a little harder to turn. Clean again if they are. In 3 years I had one of them lock on me, doing maybe 5-10mph. But it was dirty and rusty inside, and who knows if I fully had it turned to free. This was the day after finishing the Rubicon, after driving freeway for 3 hours back to the start. Worked fine until I was a mile out of camp. Just weird, pulled over, turned to unlock, and was fine. Also, gotta remember that running a locker will make them hard to unlock. Turn the steering wheel back and forth, maybe go in reverse a couple feet while sawing will make all the difference in the world. Impossible to turn sometimes after real abuse unless you free up the locker

Also, to add to the tolorance thing. They are so much nicer than Warn, Superwinch, etc style hubs. Those feel sloppy in my hands. 2nd, they are very easy to install. Gotta keep wheel bearings and hubs clean, you get the hang of it fast

Edit: maybe not "very easy". Straight forward though. The "all in one hubs" are very easy, but thats cause they're super sloppy one piece design.

Finally got my 35 spline stubs and these lockouts installed. Had some minor fitment issues, I noticed if I got the screws tight (didnt use in lb torque wrench per instructions), the dial would be pulled into the plate that the cap screws to. this made the dial pretty tough to turn (needed tool). A slightly thicker snap ring fixed this, I wonder how many complaints of tough turning are because of this? Also, the spacer to pull the stub tight to the back of the spindle wasnt long enough, but that was pretty easy to fix.

My only real complaint is the stupid spriral? snap rings that came with them.

You know I hated those snap rings at first. But I had to pull the hubs apart a second time and I decided I liked them better. :dunno:

Interesting observation on snap ring thickness.
