does anyone have long term experiance with it?

I realise additives are not always well liked but years ago I ran z-max in an 85 jeep grand wagoneer. I honestly think it helped it run cooler slightly more mpg and it just flat out ran smoother. I ran it for about 3 oil changes before i sold the jeep so I wouldnt say I had long term experiance with it. I had the jeep for about 7 oil changes total and only the last 3 did I use z-max.

Mostly for coversation sake but I am consitering using it again.

i just put lucas additive in yesterday (gas tank kind) i will prob do it the next 3 fill ups and see whats gonna happen.

Z max oil additive is just colored mineral oil. you can download the msds sheet from their website.

This is interesting too:

"According to the FTC, the CRC L38 test is a standard auto industry tool to measure the bearing corrosion protection properties of motor oils. In February/March 1997, an independent laboratory performed two CRC L38 tests of zMax for Speedway and Oil Chem. In those tests, motor oil treated with zMax produced more than twice as much bearing corrosion as motor oil alone."

the bearing corrosion tells me that there's chlorinated parraffins in there, as the "magic ingredient".

further, once the zmax sees combustion temps ( when the cylinder fires ), it breaks down just like regular oil does.

carbon build up and compromised octane value.. you're just adding a heavier oil (it's a petroleum distillate like kerosene ) to your gasoline.

not trying to be an ass, I'm just explaining why it's sold so cheap.

I did a lot of reading about it like 4by4bygod did. I wouldn't waste the money. I can't believe that Carrol Shelby puts his name on it ( old and desperate for attention I guess, must need the money, snake oil salesman.)
I don't care how much you pay me but I would not try to sell you something that I know isn't going to do you any good.

Good to know, I wont be using it lol.

I did a little reading and it is commonly thought the benifits from these type of products are used in compitition, were ever tiny bit can count. Therefore long life isnt even a consideration since most compitition engines only run a minimal amount before being rebuilt/replaced anyway. I also read that clorine bleach is a better lube than any oil but its so corrosive it does more damage than it does good. And it also thermally breaks down(as far as lubicating properties) around 95 degrees. I dont know how true that is but if it is true its rather interesting.
