Anyone considered trying to swap a zf s6-650 into an early k5? Could you mate it to an NP205 using a Klune V?

Well, thanks for blowing us all off after a whopping 10 minutes...

I had considered the swap, but didn't get much further than that. AFAIK they came behind the 8.1 and the D-max. The 8.1 should be a standard Chev bell pattern, so it should physically bolt up to the older stuff.

The Chev version seems pretty scarce, at least around here. More common to find them in Fords seeing as Ford has been using them longer.

I decided to rebuild the NV4500 I already had.

I wish that 6th was deeper (like .50:1) but I do like the 1st gear ratio...!

What's a tranny like that cost? The T56 6-Speeds are close to $3000 IIRC....

What I like about the 6 speed is that it isn't such a wide ratio. The SM465 and NV4500 are both great tranny's, but have a pretty big drop in rpm with every shift (50% drop in rpm's from 2nd to 3rd). With a 6.2 it'd be nice not to drop out of the power band so easily...even my old 350 would fall on it's face a little if I shifted a bit too early. The 6 speed puts an extra gear right where you need it...

Towing would be much easier too.

Cost and availability was what steered me away. Hell, it's hard enough to find an NV4500 around here, a ZF 6 speed would be like searching for the holy grail. Anything that hard to find is going to cost a fortune too.

There's a shop in OK or TX(?) that sells through eBay showing a Ford version of the ZF6 for $1999.

BTW -> A 0.72:1 6th combined with the overdrive in the Stak (0.79:1)would create and effective final OD of 0.62:1...... :thumb:

Could this be yet ANOTHER change of plans for my project????
