So my brother and I were almost given this truck by a friend. He said it has a miss but doesn’t know why. It’s got the 4.6 2v. 2wd ext. cab.
198k on it. New tires, cold a/c power bla bla bla.
Anyway, my brother wants it so I figure we’ll try and fix it.

All I have done so far is pull coil connectors while it’s running to see what cylinders are lame. Cyl. 3 and 8 make no difference when I unplug the coil pack. I swapped a known good coil with # 3 and stayed at #3. So not a coil. Next I pulled the driver side valve cover to see if a cam follower popped out. Looks amazingly clean and excellent. I’ll pull the pass cover next to check that side then I guess it’s time to noid the injectors or do a compression test.

Check for a vac leak under throttle body assem. unplug the ecu and re-plug. have any spark plug threads been repaired when miss showed up ?

trust me, I've shamed myself enough the last month since I put the deposit on it..... :haha:

this thing is even more ugly than mine! :woot:

Does this mean we’re old now and “use to be cool”?

When we fixed that Ranger for the kids friend I told them to get it back to her ASAP. I didn’t want it on the driveway any longer than it had to be!

I was offered a free f150 2x4 two years ago... it ran fine. I declined.

Never said no to a chev though.

My additude for ford comes from working on them at a dealership when I got out of school. Every variation of engine even in the same year and body style truck used different parts.

You guys that got these Trucks for cheap or free Congrats!

Paul’s diesel is cool.
Marks 150 is a nice clean truck
That white 150 would make a fun desert truck.

Yeah, I don’t want it. I have enough stuff to keep up with. My brother wants it for a back up, because his new jeep is his only whip right now.

Plugs and coils and it will probably run fine. Some of those had injector issues. Could also just be a wiring problem on the coil plug or the injector plug. Beware if you attempt plugs yourself these are probably the two piece ones and they like to break off in the heads. All my ones at work usually just get sent to a local shop so I don't have to deal with them LOL. These era F150s are pretty sturdy. We have a lot of them in 4x4 for meter reader trucks in my company and they thrash the shit out of them. I have seen lower mounts broken off of front struts on several of them. They can definitely take a beating.

This 4.6 has regular plugs but that’s not the problem lol. We found #3 has a hole in the piston! :yikes:
We’re going to wait for an engine to fall in our lap haha
