‘75 Fullvert Blazer- K5 Cody’s build- 8.1 swap***C10’s in the park*** Back to assembly.

Restomod build for a late friend
Update time:

Been driving the truck for the last month. Was going to take it to a men’s retreat about an hour away a few weeks ago, but the engine had other plans for me.

Truck has begun to smoke really bad and foul plugs with oil quite regularly. Leak down test has proven that the rings are pretty toast.

Changed to a hotter plug, and the truck will run ok and not foul plugs as quickly, which is going to give me a little time to put another small block together for a swap. But man does it smoke! :smokin2:

For now the plan is to get a reliable 350 back in it to get it on the road. No need for any complicated swaps right now. After body work, I may plan on something different down the road.

This weekend we are having a little get together at a buddies house to mess around on his 40 acres. I found some cheap MT’s and swapped them on a set of crusty wagon wheels that way I don’t destroy my nicer wheels and caps. Plus the mt’s will do better on the trails.

My late father in law had a 283 that smoked and fouled plugs like that in a ‘64 Malibu. After I ended up with it I found he put a spark plug anti-fouler on each plug. They only recommend putting two on a v8 but he didn’t seem to be bothered by it. Still smoked, just less. Plugs were still oily but not as many nuggets on them.

If the engine is fubar you ain’t gonna make it worse that way.

I have a good vortec motor with a carb intake that I’m going to be swapping in. Might get a mild cam, not sure about that yet. Anything will be an upgrade from this tired old girl. There’s also a decent rear main leak.

With most small blocks a carb, intake, headers, and a cam will make a large difference. After that point the cylinder heads and compression are the limiting factor.

Finished up the 4x4 with a front pinion seal and install of the new front driveshaft. Then took it for a quick spin out back on some hills. Did ok for a minute, but it seems to be goin in and out of 4wd. Also doesn’t seem to want to go I to 4lo lock. Is that a 203 linkage issue? I literally have never messed with a 203 tcase.

The 7de7 I had did that too.
Never did fix it before it got sold but I believe cleaning up the linkage would have fixed it.

With the linkage disconnected I still can’t get it into lock. From what I have read the rear sycros can burn up and prevent the case from shifting in/out of lock. I have a good 203 sitting in my garage that I am going to go ahead and swap in for now. Eventually I want to run a 700r4/205 combo, but that’s for later down the road.
