‘78 K5 Blazer- 38k miles and counting…

Literally all original driver that I will try my bestest to leave it alone and just enjoy it!
Time to park the "nice" trucks for the winter and start driving the "beater" '03. No sense in rusting them out more lol.

Funny you say that.

My youngest had an eye appointment this afternoon in KC(a little over an hour drive). I drove home at lunch to swap out for the diesel as it’s faster on the highway and gets 26mpg. Well the turd wouldn’t start lol. Glad this Blazers is nice enough to drive to KC!!!

Ya I believe that’s primer too, my 77 Burb was (Infantry Blue ) stock color. When I had to replace door striker, is when I say the red primer too.

If yur not gonna do a lift on it later and are just looking for a better ride with clearance. I put a add a leaf up front, 1 1/2” blocks on rear with cowl over shocks to level it out. Back then I used KYB, nowadays I use Bilstein’s .

After moving the other two K5’s around yesterday I was in a mood to drive a K5 that has a clear coat lol. Since the roads dried up after the snow I gave it a bath and took it into town for some errands.

This thing continues to run and drive so nice. Definitely feeling blessed to have such a nice reliable square to hop in and go wherever, whenever.

Hit the trails for the first time today. Met some guys from the area and spent a few hours on the trail. My boys went with me and had a lot of fun. The truck did great and made the 1.5hr trip there and back with the cruise set at 68mph. I’ve dreamt of this type of reliability for years and feel like this is the first time I’ve been able to accomplish that goal.

Aired down to 15psi when we got there and just keep it in 4LO. Most the people were fairly small tired, and sort of newish.

Only casualty was the glue letting go on my drivers side mirror. When I dropped of a ledge kind of hard. I still have the glass so I’ll glue it back on.

I’m now even more motivated to get the Jimmy going so I don’t hurt this one doing something I’ll regret on the trail.

This thing is well worth the monies. It aired up 8 tires from 15 to 32psi and still had battery as well as it wasn’t at 100% when we started.

Also, it’s a smaller battery than what they call for as it’s the only battery I have. So I’d say I’m 100% confident that this thing with the big 18v 8ah battery would easily air 40” tires from 10 to 30psi after a run on the trails.

You’re brave. Looks fun though.
It felt good getting back on the trail with a big full-size. It also took a lot of restraint to keep it dialed back lol.

There is a video somewhere of me roasting them in “squeeze chute” trying to get up and out one of the exits. I kept in it and kept it clear without any scars.

I just got one of those compressors from my work for a safety award. I love it. Set the pressure and walk away. Works great for basketballs and atv tires too and I'm sure I'll use it for floaties for the lake when it get warm out.

I immediately thought of the lake too. I feel confident that it would blow up a full tube on the lake.

Obviously been driving the crap out of this thing. Been having some drivetrain noises that have finally showed itself. Pulled the tail shaft housing off the T-case tonight to fix a leak, and some small roller bearings came out in the fluid.

I have another 203 that’s in good shape, so instead of trying to save the original I’m just going to swap it and move on.

I took a week off due to school starting and work got crazy. Unconventionally got the old case out. Gravity was a huge help, the tranny jack, not so much.

After I pulled the case out, I took a break to roll the truck forward and clean up all the fluid and grease that dropped.

This $80 Amazon electric power washer has been pivotal in me keeping things clean while I work.

It took one evening just to fight the new case back into the truck and on to the splines. Tonight I finished up bolting the case in and hooking everything back up. I still need to swap the front output from a yoke to a flange, fill it with fluid, and possibly adjust the shift linkage.

After it’s back together I’ll get some degreaser on it and spend some time cleaning up the underside.

Finished it up last night and took it for a victory cruise. I had no idea how loud that old case was. This thing just purrs down the road now! Now that the T-case, rear end, and run issues are resolved this thing just begs to hit the highway!
