‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

14 bolt Gov bomb

Thanks Scott.

I was fascinated with it so I took it apart.

Here's a breakdown.

Gov bomb 001.jpg
When you pop it open it looks like a monkey skull.

Gov bomb 002.jpg
All these little clips go flying out.

Gov bomb 004.jpg
The spider gears have these disks and a gear attached to 'em.

Gov bomb 005.jpg
The other 1/2 looks like the little robot from BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED.

Gov bomb 006.jpg
This little gear thingy fell out too.

So now you need a new carrier ehh??

Shoulda left the locker you already had in it

Gov bomb 007.jpg
The little gear.

Gov bomb 009.jpg
It looks like it works with this record player needle.

Gov bomb 010.jpg
Looking into the monkey skulls eyes you can see more disks.

Gov bomb 011.jpg
Another view of the spider gear & disks

Gov bomb 012.jpg
I figured the little gears line up with the little shaft and the shaft activates this little spring etc...

Gov bomb 013.jpg
The spring works like and alternator brush...? i guess...

Gov bomb 015.jpg
The disks look like cut off wheels.

Gov bomb 017.jpg
This gears on the back of the spider engage into the disks.

Gov bomb 019.jpg
Like a flower.

Gov bomb 020.jpg
Then the tri force delta gears.

Gov bomb 023.jpg
There are 2 holes in the monkey skull.

Gov bomb 024.jpg
They line up with the shaft to the "spring & brush"

Gov bomb 026.jpg
And it all goes back in here.

I've never seen one of these before so I don't know if I did it right. See anything wrong?

It just seems to have too many small parts in it. If one of those little pieces breaks, I think it could set off a chain reaction of things not working and/or breaking. Thumbs down for sure.

I can't quite get everything to fit properly. There is still a little gap there.

Moving forward I will be pulling a carrier from the Junk yard to match the Detroit.

Inboarding the rear shocks-

Options please...

I was thinking about recycling the stock shock mounts and welding them here. I was thinking in line with the spring perches. I plan to position the top mounts slightly angled to match the swing of the shackle hangers. This would mean the shocks are in the same plane...

I know the stock shock mounts have one in front of and the other in the rear of the axle tube. This puts them in equal but opposite angles. It this supposed to prevent axle wrap?

What do yous guys think? Would it be Ok to have the shocks in the same plane? Most in boards I have seen appear to be so...

I got a new carrier at the Junkyard.
The Detroit is installed.

It's been a long time that I've been rocking the 10 bolts. I know them inside and out. I must have snapped 6 shafts.

I don't know about you guys but I'm stoked.

Anybody want pics or are you good?

Here is a pic of the GOV BOMB. notice the cap on the spider gear. This is upside down. That is why it would not seal properly for me. I flipped the 2 caps over and it went right together.

Detroit locker install was very easy.

Thinking about doing some gear art. Garage Tiki? Since Mikey "the beast" isn't paying up.:deal:

This is actually the Mayan Panther God mask. It's supposed to protect the house.

14 bolt 042.jpg
Notice I put the jack under the Yoke so it can't move. Then I set the backlash at .010. This was my first time. :D I'm a noob.

Dana 44 High steer

14 bolt 043.jpg
I picked up a stock steering drag link from the JY. I put it into the stock position so I can take some measurements.

14 bolt 044.jpg
It's going to go from the lower position shown to the upper position on the SKY MANUFACTURING steering arm.
I figure the stock DL is about 57 1/2". When it goes to the high steer position it will be about 55 3/8".

I was thinking I could use the 10bolt TRE to attach the Hydro assist ram. This is just an idea.
The big plate would be cut out and fabricated into a beefy mount.

14 bolt 046.jpg
Side view. The idea here is to keep the ram parallel to the drag link.

any opinions on this set up?

Q&A time....

Yep.

Nobody commented on my question about the lower inboard shock mount idea.
I believe the question was regarding the forward/ reverse shock mount setup in stock configuration.

By inboarding the rear shocks and keeping the shocks centered in the plain of the axle travel would it inadvertently create more axle wrap?

As for the Hydro assist mount, I was thinking about doing something a little different too.
Maybe use some tubing...any thoughts on that? Make a little hoop and add some tabs at the top...?

Box plate vs tube mount opinions?

I'm a fan of the over built I think a little tube frame with maybe some webbing. For trail protection ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374629891.739853.jpg

You know...... BEEF!
