‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Don't listen to this man.

Martin

:haha: I know what I'm talking about. Hubcaps look fine on a truck with a stock(ish) paint job, like on yours and most of your crews', but they would look silly and out of place on a JIMMY with custom camo paint.

I got the driver side back together last night.

I don't like how that upper ball joint is sitting. I might need to replace the outer C.

My freakin brand new Warn hub lock fell apart too! This side was all tore up! :doah:

It's not good.

My knuckle needs to be replaced. The hole for the upper ball joint is reamed out too much to hold the ball joint in place.

I liberated the one from my 10 bolt. The stock steering arm was a MFrr to get off. The old ball joints were all mushroomed from busted axles and had to be grinded and cut off.

I got it all cleaned up and threw some paint on it.

Meanwhile I noticed my frame finally cracked at my gear box. I will weld it back together. I ordered the support kit from ORD. That will be going on after the front axle gets put back together.

It should be a productive weekend.

Slow progress. Just when I got my new ball joints pressed in my old knuckle the gear box support showed up.

:waytogo: to ORD. The welds look great, piece looks strong and it got here faster than expected.

I think I'll go ahead and finish the knuckle swap tonight I'm getting pretty quick at tearing down the front axle.

I want to repair the frame tomorrow...

ORD frame support kit review

My first impression of ORD is definately a good one. The website was user friendly, the order came faster than expected and the quality of the part is top notch.

The frame support kit was an easy install. After I welded my frame back together the kit was a breeze to install.

I can totally see where the the kit supports the web of the frame and there is no way the frame is going to move now unless I completely tear out my cross member.

Big thanks to ORD. :waytogo:

So it was worth the money to get a non-junkyard part this time. Sounds like money well spent. I need one of those things too. Plus a whole lot of other stuff. :D

I would alway read about how our frames crack at the gear box. I was kind of jealous because I kept an eye on mine for a while and didn't see a crack.

Finally it went.

Yes, I could have made a support bracket out of my scrap pile but it wouldn't have been as nice as this and if I had to pay myself it would have been more expensive.

After a driveway alignment I'm ready to hit the trail again. :woot:

Looks good. It's definitely a stout piece i to was impressed by the build quality and fit.
