‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Elbo grease

Pretty good afternoon in the garage. I pulled the valve covers and the old dirty hookers for some maintenance.

Check these out. Are they stock?

Now I'm cleaning the engine bay everywhere I can reach.
I got some VHT header paint and now my hookers are black. I have to bake 'em or warm them up in increments of 20 minutes on/off.

Has anyone ever used it before?

Yeah I did a set o headers in vht, only warmed them up a couple of times before extended run time. The black went away within a couple drives, but they stayed smooth and dull and really havent changed after 1500 miles or so of driving.

Oh and them valve springs look stock to me :popcorn:

Ive used on my sportbikes exhaust for years! I love it and havent had any issues with fading. I apply a **** ton of coats though. Prolly about 8-10 coats. And i dont really bother with exact 20 minute heat cycles.

Really? GTK I woke up this morning and added a coat, let it dry and then when I finished my coffee I installed everything.

I started to bake them when I read the instructions for the 3rd time and I noticed it said something like:

"you can add 3 coats in 1 hr but if you add a coat after 1 hr you need to wait 7 days before you can cure the paint"

7 days?

Wow...:eek1:

...IDK 7 days?

Oh well, it reminds me of an old story want to hear it?

Too bad here it is.

I had a GF roommate who owned a Scout II. I loved that rig and she didn't appreciate it. I would always spend my extra time working on it imagining it was a chevy. One time her mother came to visit which was kool but I was in the middle of painting her manifolds HARVESTER ORANGE.

I didn't know you had to bake it and I was too smart to read the instructions. The first impression I made on her mom was that I was some soft of tweaker in the garage. When I cranked up the Scout II it smoked like a MF.

We always joked about it as the years went by.

She used to ask me what I'm working on -

...Panting headers ? :smokin2::sign15::rotfl::haha:

My street slang vocabulary has just grown a little. I wonder if the cops are familiar with that code. "Hey man, let's go around back and paint a couple of headers real quick." I bet the authorities are on to you now. Pretty soon it will be illegal to paint headers in CA. Unless you have a prescription. :haha:

It's all good. They check ID when you buy spray paint here.

...and I have a prescription so I'm not sweating it. :pimp:

It's not just out there on the left coast either. They have to check your ID for everything now in most states. I bought some fuel treatment and some carb cleaner spray the other day and the lady was like "are you over 18?" and I was like "yeah I'm 19." She looked at me like "wow you look really old to be only 19." :haha:If she had said anything, I was going to tell her that huffing fuel treatment fumes made you look a lot older than you really are. :doah:

I have to say though - what if there was a 16 year old kid that needed to get his car running right? He would be SOL if he needed to buy some checmicals. What we need are some more laws to keep us all safe. I'm glad that our legislators are on top of things. That's exactly what I voted for them to do. I mean who cares about the plethora of laws we already have? More restrictions are neccessary. I hope the Obama administration is monitoring this forum.:weapon35:

The 16 yr old kid can buy some gasoline but he can't buy gas treatment. :confused:

I am baking my headers right now. :smokin2:

20 on , 20 off. I'm almost done. :D They stopped smoking and are still flat black.

I guess I'll change my rear diff fluid and power wash the rest of the engine bay.

I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow.

I'll be looking for that 2wd pitman arm I left out there and like always the elusive D60...

The bottom of my diff cover was bent up from dragging on the rocks so I shaved it some and i'm adding some 10 Ga plate to the bottom.

Whats with the inside info??? :rolleyes:

Saturday is a big day because he is getting married.

I had to leave before I finished the install, my friends are having a baby and I had to babysit their little man.

...Another reason it's a big day. A birth and a wedding! :D
