‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

I think thats a really good way to do it save some coin don't even have to machine the knuckle

I just ordered the ram and fittings.:D

I got the Surplus 6" ram
(4) 90* fittings
(4) Straight hose ends 3/8 x 3/8

This is gonna be legend...(wait for it)

you can use these too if you want to put 90's on the box so then you can use straight fittings on both ends of the hose so it's easier to fix in a bind, it's what i would have done if it were an option.

and these are the hose ends, a little pricy due to the high end hose, you need the 3/8-3/8

I think those 90* fitting are the wrong size.

Yep, I messed up.:doah:

In THE SPEC FOR THE RAM it shows a SAE6 port. In the drawing on the same link it also calls it 9/16-18 ORB.

The HOSE ENDS are 3/8" x 3/8" JIC Female.

...So I need to get the correct 90* fittings.

Would it be called a SAE6 x 3/8" JIC elbow?

like this one? ELBOW

:1zhelp:

ok so jic is measured 2 ways fractional and numbers 2-24 so 3/8 is = to -6 jic/na they are measure in 16th of an inch so 3/8 = 6/16 = -6 jic. I posted 2 different 90's 2 for the ram that was SAE 6 to jic 6. and 2 for the steering box i did however post the wrong ones here i posted 1/4NTP to -4 jic it should have been 1/4 NPT to -6 jic. i'll buy the wrong ones off you.

 6" stroke?, cause you may have a problem. It should be 8. Even 8" leaves it about 1/4" short of the stops, but it's good.

I disagree.

The 10 bolt has 6" steering stroke

The Dana 44 has 8"

The Dana 60 has 8"

The Rockwell has 10"

I'm putting the 6" on the 10 bolt.

Later when I upgrade I will need to get an 8"er.

I didn't know. hmmm How is there that much difference between a 10bolt and a D44? Can't the knuckles be swapped and if so the length of the tierod arm is that different?

sounds like the 10b has a shorter arm than the D44/D60

no the one for the box is the wrong size it needs to be jic-6 to 1/4 NTP
:doah: The sad part is I thought about it.

I don't know the exact difference, I just know it's different. I would have to put them side by side to figure out why.

Using GM tool PPM-4011 1ton tie rod end reamer I am reaming the XJ pitman arm to accept the TRE.

FYI

I ordered the ram from surplus center and I ordered the hose ends from discount hydraulics at the same time.

I paid for 3 day brown Santa on both orders.

The ram showed up in 2 days and I am still waiting for the hose ends.

I'm not complaining, I'm just sayin...good job Surplus center :thumb:
