‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Now I'm thinking about the cooler. I could hook it up to the extra oil cooler in the radiator, or I could hook up a little one and mount it in front of the radiator.

Any opinions?

I have a second one on mine just a little one, Nothing fancy. I Imagine the oil cooler would work well Only difference is there rated for higher pressures.

Just make sure your cooler is mounted lower than the reservoir or it will give you a fit with trapping air :waytogo: I put mine on the bottom of my core support.

I noticed the fittings on your ram are not mounted up. You may run into some issues with air getting trapped there when you bleed it. Just so you are aware. Also make sure your tie rod doesnt hit them at full lock :waytogo:

I'll pass. I think going to the junkyard and picking parts is all part of the fun.

Besides, I'm not interested in another 10 bolt, or a 14BSF.

I'll eventually get a D44 & 14BFF some time after the wedding.

Thanks for lookin out. :waytogo:
Thought maybe you would go for it. Its just about free delivery. You could always sell these when you get the set you want. And its a significant upgrade to your current rear diff. :woot: no worries tho! :pimp:

Thanks. I had the ram tacked in place. When I tested it it was too close at right lock. I repositioned the ram and the fittings are facing up more and are now clear.

I was just out there messing around with the cooler and my back said no more so I had to stop.

I'll go get a pic real quick...

That's it for today.

I've only read the first 10 pages but I really like your jimmy! Sorry I'm a little late to the party!

Thanks. The Jimmy has has proved to be a tuff 1/2 ton.

Looks great, Paul! :D

I need to do hydro-assist on my rig....
I keep hinting every time you take the box off. You have the skills but I'm afraid you might have ADD. :haha:
How many unfinished projects do you have going right now?

Today I am out of town but I managed to order a PS cooler from Summit. I was going to recycle my old Tranny cooler but opted against it. I'm sure it would work fine but it was just too ghetto for me.

Fail

I regret to inform you that my cross over failed. :doah:

I hooked the hydraulic lines up incorrect. When I was bleeding the air out & the ram got strong I turned right, the ram turned left and the cross over link pretzeled.

I'm glad it was in the driveway and not on a trail.

Off to the Junkyard I go to get 2 more drag links.

This time I am going to do it a little different.

Live and learn...

I'm not going to let it get me down. I do this for fun.

It' fun to run around the Junkyard.

Who knows what I might find out there today. Maybe there will be a D60 sitting there with my name on it...

My buddy said he has some clean doors I can chop up.

!/2 doors coming soon...

I went down to the JY and picked up a few steering drag links. I chopped, bent and welded this one.

If it looks a little different you are correct. I changed the design a little bit.

I cant see the pic :doah:

But that sucks!

You did your steering different than mine i noticed.

I used the long tre with the tapered hole on the tierod, and just a small tierod end into the side of that one for the draglink.

You seem to have used the long tre on the draglink. Interesting.

The way I did it the first time is wrong and unsafe.

I'll post a pic of the difference after some paint dries.

Pretty much the stock set up but I put the TRE with the reamed hole on the passenger side.

Ram on and stock TRE in place but on opposite side.

Everything is sitting dead center waiting for the new steering arm.

The difference is if I would have broken anyTRE my tires would have gone in different directions. Now if it fails both my tires will be going in the same direction. If need be I could take off my pitman arm and clock it 90* back to the push pull location and install the short link to the old stock mount. I have more recovery options this way and that's what matters most when you are in the middle of nowhere and BFE.
