‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

.... A few hrs later.

I knocked out those sleeves and sprayed some rust kill black.

Straight from the scrap pile. :D

What was scrap yesterday is restored tomorrow. :waytogo:

You're sticking with the junkyard theme. Awesome. According to the state of CA, you're whole truck should have been scrapped years ago. Guess you showed them.

Softride suspension getting installed today. :D:popcorn:

It looks to me like I got the clearance I needed above the ram assist.:pimp:

Pblaze '82 K2500 JunkYard JIMMY {spring trials}

Looks about perfect to me. Now go wheel it!

Did you ditch the sway bar?

Edit: never mind I looked back at the pics.

Yea I removed my sway bar several years ago.

I still want to lower the rear a little bit.

...Then measure for shocks.
Think you'll get farther than the taco now?
Not with that wheel base. :deal::haha: that's what we always say to each other. :haha:

Are you gonna move your rear axle back Paul?

I thought about it but decided not to.

I know some folks like Martin hate the short wheel base of the K5.:deal:

Since I am trying to keep it low, I want to keep it short too.

I'm not big fan of high centering on hill tops, rocks, or whatever else I climb over.

If I wanted a longer wheel base rig I would be hacking up a Burb.:rolleyes::D

Hey Swetty, Check this out!

When I install my recycled springs it relocates the axle 1" towards the back.

I guess I will have a longer wheel base!

Well, today I installed one of my recycled spring packs.

I ended up another inch higher than before.:doah:
How are my old stock springs taller than my lift springs?

Tomorrow it comes back off. The trials continue.

Don't do this

image.jpg

I found my mistake. When I put this pack together I didn't notice this lower spring was too close to the "pack"spring. The tips were hung up on the rivets not letting the pack settle.

Live and learn. Spring Trials continue.

I found this interesting.

The spring on top is from a 2.5" lift. From the center of arch to the top of spring point is 6". The measurement from the front eye to center pin is 24", 26" to the rear.

The lower spring is from my stock pack From the center of the arch to the top of spring point is 7.5". The measurement from the front eye to center pin is 25.5", 25.5" to the rear.

I'm now going back to spring on top for a shorter wheel base and lower ride.
