“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

89 Jimmy 6.0/4l80e/MAGNUM 205/d60/14bolt
The gray trim kinda breaks the rhythm but being a big (mostly) white block you could name it “Kilo”. lol

Is there a better way to celebrate the day of your birth than getting pressure to update your build thread?! I say no! :D

Happy Birthday @chris85 ! :thumb:

:flipoff11: Just kidding

Thanks! I’m down in Jacksonville for the next 2 weeks but plan to hit it hard when I get back. Front drive shaft and tune soon to come. :D

I don’t know what I gotta do to get some decent brakes in this piece.

Ordered a 3/4 master with the 1.2” bore, I believe it is. Can’t get the stupid thing to bench bleed bc the little plastic fittings wouldn’t seal. Did what I could with that and just put it on the truck and the rear brake line leaks. :sign27:

Ugh

Tiny little update.

So the new master cylinder seems to work ok. It moves more fluid, and produces more pressure to the rear brakes, but there is a lot of pedal travel before this happens.

Tuner guy came by yesterday and we were able to track down why the fans wouldn’t come on. The power wire and output wires were flipped at the relay. So a quick swap of those wires pretty much fixed that problem. Pretty sure there is air in the cooling system though bc she still gets hot pretty quick.

Got the front driveshaft ordered from TomWoods. It should be here Monday.

Maybe we can get some longer drives in soon and really start getting into some bugs.

AH HA!! I may have solved the overheating problem.

Decided to go ahead and swap in a new thermostat, thinking the old one could be rusted up and stuck, but come to find out there isn’t an old thermostat! It is MIA!

My fault for not checking things out before hand. I had a sketchy feeling about the guy I bought this motor from but I was dumb and impulsive and bought it anyway.

Welp fans are fixed, this will be fixed today....slowly tracking it all down

And it continues. Think the whole water pump is dead. Thermostat in, jacked up the front, filled with fluid, fans came on at 180, but still climbed to 235 in less than 10 min.

I was watching the fluid at the cap port for bubbles and it looked to have no flow to it. It was just stagnant...

And that is exactly why I bought a running and driving truck to ls swap my blazer. Water pump should be an easy fix.

Since the thermostat was missing completely I would check the motor thoroughly as if the seller was trying to hide something.

The whole motor has been to the machine shop and checked, bored, heads milled. I would hope they would’ve caught something then.

I think the pump just died on me because when we first fired it up we had some flow.

Hindsight, this is what I would’ve done too. I think you’d come out cheaper in the long run. But as pops says, it’s just another investment into my education as a shade tree mechanic.

Yup just a cheap ls swap... trying to decide between efi live or hptuners mvpi2 pro. Either or just added 700-900 to that cheap swap. Lol

Don’t you love when a website says “this part will fit your vehicle” only to find out that it doesn’t?
Apparently there are 2 different sized thermostats for a 2002 2500 6.0.

Anyway, got another water pump coming, hoping this will do the trick but I’m trying to go through a mental check list to see if I’m missing something.

So I checked the new thermostat and it opens up, new water pump will be here tomorrow, I’ve filled from the top house with the truck elevated... I have NOT tried burping with the heat on. This could be my source of air.... the fans work now. But I’m curious about something

So my first fan is set to come on at 180 degrees and then the second at 190-195 I think. And I have a 187 thermostat. Surely the fans arent keeping the fluid cool enough that it’s keeping the thermostat closed?? The other day when I was trying to burp the system the fans kicked on as they should and the motor got to 235 before I shut it off, no flow in the radiator, and the it was cool to the touch.
