“Dylan’s” 89. Back at it!

Shoulda got a big..... oh wait, never mind mine leaks too.

Think of it as undercarriage rust prevention.

:haha:

I thought everything was gonna be good. I got a few miles down the road and pulled over to look and I didn’t see anything. Went a few more miles and pulled over again and it looked like it was raining from my truck. It was everywhere.

I went ahead a drained a few quarts out of the trans. Maybe that’ll help some.

I’m thinking the magnum is overfilled too but I swear i followed the filling instructions. I gotta find those to confirm.

The Magnum should only hold 3/4 of a quart. Make sure your vent fitting is at the top and runs uphill with no low spots.
I know ord says you can run atf or gear oil. I chose gear oil because I don’t use atf on my rig anymore since I went manual.

Hmm, I could’ve sworn it said it holds a full quart. No matter, I’ll drain some out. Vent should be adequate. I think I may extend it one day.

I used gear oil as well. I had some left over from regearing the Jeep. Plus I like the simple ability to identify which fluid it is that is leaking by color.

Alright! Second test drive was a success! Magnum leaked a little out of the vent but that’s self limiting. Got about 12-15 miles in.

Trans temp got to 199 in that time just driving around town, but I kept it out of overdrive too. That’s from the ECU sensor. A pan sensor would be more, correct? Thermostat for the external trans cooler should open up at 180. I’ll keep an eye on this as I take it on longer drives.

The ECU sensor is usually in the trans pan as part of the harness.

Unless you drive in subzero temps frequently I would ditch the cooler bypass.

I’m hoping most of that has to do with the cooler being too small. I went ahead and ordered a bigger one. We’ll see if that does the trick

A short little night ride and some flexing! I’m fairly impressed, she still had more to go dang wall got in the way.

I’ve been taking it out just for a few miles down the road at a time. Everything seems to working good. Still have some slight leaking but nothing drastic. Next weekend it has to make about a 100 mile trip down to the in-laws to be stored while we are renting in the new house. That should be a good road test :1zhelp:

I'm excited to see how the ord leaves perform. I'm still wanting to link my sub but leaves sure are cheaper.

It’s early in but I have no complaints. I may swap the rears for ORDs at some point as well.

It may be just that I feel that installing links is above my skill level, but I don’t think I’ll ever see the need for them. My expectations are pretty low when it comes to ride quality and if I ever make it to Moab, that’ll probably be the most extreme wheeling it sees.

Put some more miles on it this after noon. The longest ride it’s been on and the trans temp never got to 180. Kind of weird. It was less stop-and-go but at higher speeds.

Looks like my main leaking culprit now is the output seal on the 205. It’s not leaking around the seal, but around the flange. Could this be another situation where it has too much fluid? Or do I just need to go ahead and replace the seal?
