06 duramax water pump

What a pain. I could not believe when researching, that you have to remove the balancer. Had to make 4 custom tools to get the job done. Made a thin. 1 7/8 wrench for the fan nut, a fan pulley holding tool with 2 studs, a ring gear lock so I did not have to remove the starter, and a 36 mm socket welded to a bar so I could add an 8 foot cheater bar on it. Had to remove the hood to use the cheater bar. But it went back together, so that is what counts.

I was just telling my wife about whatm a pain it was. She reminded me that I want to travel with a Semi and a 5th wheel. She wanted to know if a semi is more or less work?

Can't wait until retirement. At least you can get to everything.

I bet, and who has a 37mm 12pt socket in the tool box. I actually had to buy one from checker in falcon.

They do not have them any longer. Good thing my brother next door did. And he needed a longer bar on it for some VW axle nuts.

Thats why I switched to Dodge when it came to new iron. So much easier to work on, which isn't often anyway.

Yeah, what a piece of junk your Chevy is. You should just go buy a Ford or Dodge because their water pumps are easier to change.

If you ever need a hand with anything let me know, between me & my buddies I worked with at the dealer we got a lot of specialty tools.
I still owe you for that trailer ride back into town

Just pray you never have injector problems--I hear its a two day job to do one side of the engine!..I saw one Duramax apart and I surte wouldn't want to fix one,talk about cramped working conditions and just plain SUCK to work on..I freaked when I saw WIRES molded into the valve cover gasket--they run the injectors!...
My brother is a veteran mechanic,he owns a 2002 GMC 4x4 3/4 ton with the Duramax/Alison combo,and he's getting ready to ditch his truck,it is approaching the mileage that the injectors usually start giving trouble--he's been very lucky with it so far,he has had issues with rust in the fuel system though..while its a very powerful engine and tranny combo,I think GM can still do better..its not a Cummins,thats for sure,especially when it comes time to fix them..

Diesel,they do suck. How about pulling the heads..... eeccckk, if not the worst one, one of the worst ones I have done heads on. The injectors are no easy task either on the pre 04's. What makes it worse is doing it for free cuz the dealers messed up.,

Sorry dodge, ill stay away from those also. All trucks suck.

As far as it taking 2 days to put injectors in never heard of that Book time to replace all 8 injectors is 12 hrs. Most techs should be able to do that in a day or less. My buddy I worked with at the dealer did so many trucks he had them down to 4-5 hrs. If you ever need to get really deep into an engine on a Duramax it's actually easier to pull the cab off the truck(takes about 1hrs.) and makes the entire engine accessible.
