Thinking of buying this 2006 Silverado from a local dealer,

I'm going to look at it tomorrow, it's a '06 V8 4x4 LT with under 60k miles. He can't remember if it has the 4.8L or 5.3L. Tan cloth interior, with a plastic bed liner and trailer hitch. Looks really straight and clean with just a few stone chips, he's asking $13k which from what I can tell would be private party value in good condition in my area.
I figure he's into it for about $10k wholesale, and it looks like he put two new tires up front, so I should be able to get him down a bit.

So, what should I watch out for? Any known problems? This will be my daily driver and backup family truckster for the wife and kids... I'm just not that knowledgable about the newer chevy's. Appreciate any advice you guys can give me!

I have an 06'. if thats a 5.3, it will be the aluminum block h.o. vin code b that only came in ex-cab 4x4's for 2 years. Good solid trucks. Transfer cases are slip yoke front and rear shaft, and have a sketchy reputation, althoug i never had an issue. Aside from that, the only problem ive personally had is the po449 code for the emissions solenoid that goes bad on the 99+ trucks. Cheap fix if you do it yourself. Sounds like a fair price for a clean truck.

I have an 05 crewcab with the 5.3. I love it. I bought it used with about 80k on the clock. I gave 10k for it. Only problem I've had is with the rear end. I have the govlock in mine. Some of the bearings went out and I had the axle replaced under warranty. The only thing I dislike is the short bed. Not much bed space after adding a tool box.

The 5.5" boxes are out there but not real common. My dad looked at one when shopping for used trucks a couple years ago. Overall those trucks are very solid as GM had lot's of time to work out any bugs.

As mentioned above, are you sure it's a 4x4? The biggest thing that catches my attention is the lack of a 4x4 or Z71 sticker on the rear fender.

LT was the higher option and should have had aluminum wheels originally equipped. Some LTs had cloth, some had leather. Not that it matters if the wheels were swapped out the aluminums clearcoat was known for peeling.

Front bumper doesn't line up, may want to look into that. Other than that they are pretty decent trucks if left unmodified.

Yeah, I thought it was a 2wd when I first saw it too. It does have the 5.3L and 4wd. It's a really nice truck, everything works, and other than a scuff on the drivers side front bumper and a couple door dings and dents that are hard to see on a white truck, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I couldn't find any signs of it being wrecked and repaired ( the front bumper actually does line up and appears to be original, I think it is just the sunlight causing it to look that way in the picture).

I could hardly get them to budge much on their asking price... They are going to put on new Goodyear Wranglers, the front two tires are newer, but the back two are almost bald and look to be original). It rolled 56k on the odometer while we were test driving it. I dont mind the short bed, I actually prefer it personally. It's had a bed liner since new apparently, and doesn't look like it ever hauled much. The trailer hitch doesn't look like it was used much either, so I doubt it was used to tow very often. No rust, other than the typical surface rust on some of the frame that I could easily clean up.

Options package seemed odd to me though, it's loaded but with a cloth interior and painted steel wheels. Did this maybe have those goofy chrome plastic factory wheel covers on originally that I see on these all the time? Maybe they got chewed up on curbs and they just took them off? I was surprised to find it has steering wheel controls for the stereo, Onstar, and XM satellite radio, etc... I can't believe how quiet it was, even over 70mph. When I top 50 in the blazer you can't hear yourself think. I'm thinking I will probably go for it, they are putting the tires on and changing the oil etc. this afternoon...

I have a 05 crewcab Z71 and I love the truck. Bought it last year with 128,xxx miles and now has 140,xxx miles on it and mechanically I haven't had any problems.
One problem I had (but seems to have went away) was there is a solenoid that controls the A/C for heat or cold. Every once in awhile when I had the A/C on it would start blowing hot on the driver side, like I turned the heat on, but cold on the passenger side. I never replaced it b/c it cost something like $150 and all I had to do to get the A/C to work again was turn the truck off and back on. Haven't had a problem in 3 months with the A/C.

I have the 5.3 in my truck and I get about 15-16 MPG in town and 18-19 MPG highway, but I don't get the truck above 2,000RPM unless I'm towing my boat.

I love my 06' 2500 Silverado HD standard cab LB 2wd 6.0 work truck. Strong motor for sure. CRAP milage, but I didn't but it for milage, it's a work truck.

I just bought an 03 LT with the 5.3... I love it. Soooo much nicer than DDing the blazer...

Well, I ended up getting it. I paid a little more than I was hoping to, but after thinking about it, and comparing it to what I found in my local area, I decided it seemed like the right truck for us. So far my family loves it, we took all three kids for their first ride in it, and they loved the room in the back seat. Its much wider than the wife's Durango, so they weren't even touching each other. The trip computer(I know they're not known for their accuracy) says I was averaging 19.1 mpg on my commute back and forth to work!!! I drove it 63 miles since I filled up, and it says I have 348 miles left until empty. I could get used to this! I just wanted to thank everyone for the responses, it gave me a bit more of a comfort level buying a used truck, it's a lot of money to potentially be buying someone else's problems. I hope this things around for a long time! Thanks guys

I had a new 06, great truck. Had the only engine worth owning in that year LQ9
