Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
He loves this thing. His idea to take it out tonight. Made his night when I let him crawl in my lap and drive it the last mile home through the neighborhood. Being a dad is hard but moments like that make it all worth it.

Engine is very happy but it’s still got a very rich spot right off idle that makes it bog real bad. But otherwise it’s responsive and doesn’t smoke and doesn’t leak and doesn’t seem to burn oil. Transmission is shifting great. Temps are in check. I’m really happy.

Gauge shows 9.5. Idles around 14.5 but you go much over 5% throttle and it dips into the 9’s and bogs for a second and then comes up and runs fine. I’ve been fighting this blip since I got it running. You can EASE into the throttle to avoid it but it’s a very big EASE.

Reminds me when I took my daughter on a trip in my big rig overnight, she was 6, she sat in my lap and drove for a couple of miles.
She will never forget that night.
It was a 2 lane highway at 2 am, no vehicles within miles.she had a smile from ear to ear

If you can ease into it and it doesn't do it it sounds like it needs a different shot in the low throttle AE correction.

If you can send me your tune file I can take a look at it for you.

What does the TPS say at idle?

Not much of an update. It’s been moth balled the last few months. Pulled it out for a spin around the neighborhood and it’s running good. I added a degree to the base timing, from 15 to 16*, and it solved a cough it had when starting cold. Pulled a little out of the AE correction and that helped the richness when pulling away from a stop. Needs just a touch more and it’ll be good. Also trimmed the fenders so the tires would quit rubbing at every little bump and turn. IMG_6337.jpegIMG_6338.jpeg

It’s back under its cover with a charger on the battery. Going on vacation for two weeks and then two weeks after that I go to pick up my papa’s truck and bring it back to get to work on that.

I also recently bought a trailer big enough to haul this beast so it’s gonna get some wheeling time when I get back from my travels. Need to drain the break in fluid from the axles, change the engine oil again, and go have some fun.
