well got my new truck. 07 ext cab LT 4x4

pics up soon but i would like to start my build thread and was hoping for some ideas

i know its a 1500 but i want to tow my blazer with it.

i will only be towing about 3-4 times a year the farthest about 500 miles i think.

Now i dont want to change the gearing because it is my DD but what can i do to beef it up for towing and just performance and fuel

plans so far.

Headers with true duals. Cold air intake, chip, air bags for rear

now let me know what yall think and what brands should i go with for the above things?

thanks.

On my 03 2500hd 6.0 i have edelbrock shorty headers, aem cold air intake, hypertech programmer, bbk throttlebody, dual flowmaster 2.5 50 series mufflers....runs great, it does tho have 4:10s and 8inch lift with 37 bfg km2s.

Check smog laws, in CA you can't add true duals anymore. Besides that, i was going to say air bags.

Besides that, to ready for tow duty, make sure you have some good load rated tires, brakes are in good condition, etc.

And remember, when you put exhaust on...you are going to have to listen to this thing sing at 4-5k rpms a lot when towing, and that is ok...just get an exhaust system that is tolerable at those RPMS.

My parents think their tahoe is pretty quiet until i drive it, or have to tow with it....and then its pretty loud.

Does your truck have the factory tow package?
Trans cooler and maybe even engine oil cooler.

Is the factory hitch rated to tow what you're hauling?
Consider the weight of the Blazer plus the trailer and any gear you might haul in there as well.

Trailer brakes?
Towing a heavy load like that with a 1/2 ton you SHOULD have trailer brakes.

And by should, you mean its required by law. Most states its any trailer over 3000 or 3500lbs, but some states is 1000lbs.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about each states laws, so I just generalized.

But just because it's required by law doesn't mean people actually do it. I have been guilty of this in the past.

hmm didnt think about not being able to run true duals. which is ok. i could run some edlebrock shorty headers which is a direct bolt in to the stock setup and then do a cat back system. the only thing i wouldnt be replacing is the cats and cross pipe which i dont know if i would get much of gain by changing it.

as for the noise. im use to the blazer singing at 3k with no insulation so i could probably put up with it 3-4 times out of the year but thats a good point.

It had the trailer package on it, i will look at the build sheet and see if it was more than just a hitch. If it doesnt have the trans cooler i will def look into installing one.

the blazer weighs 6k and the trailer 2k so thats 8k. i belive the 1500 are rated at 9k but i will double check.

the trailer does have trailer brakes and i do plan on installing a brake controler

For something that new, i wouldn't worry about the cat performance. The main benefits are when the cat is plugged up with 20 yrs of crap.

I'd do the cat back like you are saying. Nothing wrong with running a single in/dual out muffler to get the dual exhaust look, and you save $100 on the 2nd muffler :D

im liking the idea of leaving the front cross pipe normal. any other performance mods yall can think of?

any benifits to putting a different MAF in? seen ones online just didnt know what more they do?

I did the granitelli maf along with aem cold air , along with the shorty headers, hypertech and a flowmaster catback (now duals)you can tell the differance. I do tho have the 2500hd, 6.0 and 4l80e, tows real good, cant complain.
