i am thinking of changing my 74 blazer from 1/2 ton running gear to a 1 ton setup. i have a line on a ton suburban that i can use as a donor. is there anything that is really tricky or is it pretty much just bolt in. do i nned to swap springs also ect? i have heard some issues with the larger brakes and if i did this should i switch to a rear disc? i currenty have a dana 44 and a 12 bolt in the rear. still have the np 203 but i am wording on acuring a np 205. i tried looking at other psot but they where not to helpfully as i think this topic has probally been talked about many times. any insight would be much appricieated.

no such thing as a ton suburban. do some reading, you'll find all the answers you need.

find a 3/4 ton 14bff, it'll bolt right in with a conversion u-joint. a d60 will bolt right in also.

sry i ment to say 3/4 ton suburban but it has the 14bff and the dana 60 not sure about that one but great. will do some more looking on the interent

dam late 70 early 80's it a desiel and is a 3/4 ton. i have a factory dana 44 up front right now so i guess i might just stick with that. i have seen sevel people on the internet running this setup. i am eventually going to have a 383 with 400/400 so i want something that i wont break if i use the gas pedal. Plus i will be running 38 to 40 inch tires so the beeter axles would help. i havent looked at it yet but i hope its the 14bff and not the 14bsf

we can answer any question you have..

if it has a 60 up front, it's been swapped in..

easy way to tell a 60 is if it has 3 u-bolts, as opposed to a 44 or 10 bolt (which btw, are equal in strength to each other) that have 4 u-bolts..

40's + skinny pedal + dana 44 = snapped axles.... anything above a 35, 36" tire with a 44 and your pushing it...
