well, i`m using a cap that was section ~3ft, then re-fiberglassed, which will cover up the rear seat, which will allow the cargo space available in the truck to be "external"....so it will kind of look like this, this is a chop i did a while back

I know I come a little late to the party but this might help you some http://www.roscommonequipmentcenter.com/projects/rec62.pdf
Converting the M1009 Blazer to Cab and Cargo Box Style
It has measurements and pictures. In my opinion the best job I have seen and best of all they spent the time and money to perfect it. If I ever did this dead to a blazer this is what I would do!

That is sooo cool that plans exist for that! Personally I think it's pretty pointless, I see why the ministry was doing it though. Unless your carrying fridges I think the security and weather proof factors win out.

well, having the bed space open, i will be able to carry multiple things that i wouldnt be able to with a closed bedspace....such as a snowblower, lawnmower, etc.....

I think the security and weather proof factors win out.
how so??? weather proofing doesnt seem to be an issue, i think i got that all set, but security?

Mind you that this cap cost me nothing, which is one of the pluses to this project:wink1:

For the most part yeah the security is still there. I meant compared to a P/U or what you have in mind. The gear would be dry and locked up with the regular set up. No disrespect intended at all, I personally don't have a use for that set up, I said the same about the Avalanche too.

So you aren't going to have a rear window? Just plywood?

I think he is using the plywood as a mounting surface for the slider window he found from an old ranger.

couldnt have said it better, well....maybe:D

Step 2...in progress

ok, this morning i just took the window, got it all centered up, then traced where the cut out would need to be...because i dont have a scroll saw, and my buddy didnt get my message to bring his when he came down, i was unable to go any further, as i was a little hesitant to attempt it with the sawzall

Do you have a jig saw? Its like the smaller version of a sawzall but with a lot more control and a lot easier to cut curves too.

nope, i think a jig saw is very similar to a scroll saw....my buddys dad got one, so i`ll borrow his....man, this stinks..thanks to my buddy for delaying progress:waytogo: :waytogo:

nope, in general a scroll saw is mounted on a table...

and a Jig saw isn't...

thanks for the correction, i though a scroll saw was a jigs saw that you could rotate the blade....

The point of this project is if you ever have to carry something in your rig, and if you have a blazer like myself, the cargo area is somewhat limiting, so i couldnt do it....well this will allow me to do such a thing, and not have to worry about anything getting ruined inside, and its perfect, as i will just cover the cab/seating area.....will also work good when i start campin, through all the gear back there, dirty or clean....plus i like the fact that its different....everyone understand now?:D

Thats a good point, I'm so used to my truck where I throw whatever I want back there and don't think about it I could see how that would be a problem w/ a k5....
