I am about to pull the trigger on a set of 1 tons for my 88 k5. i have the D60 kingpin front and 14bff rear. 4.56 gears and locker in the back. They have the pass side hi steer arm for crossover stering already. I want to know what i might be forgetting about in my shopping list for installation. Here is what i have thought of so far;

Driveshafts
Rear brake lines on the axle
Diff covers front and rear
Vent lines F/R
new brake pads
2wd steering box
crossover steering set-up
axle u bolts F/R
wheels and tires.

What could i be forgetting?

Thank you for your help!

The U bolt plates for the 60. What is the 14 bolt out of, do you need to move the perches?

i was told the set was out of a military truck. The u bolt plates come with the set. I like the beer thing but stuff gets messed up when my help drinks on the job

Hey wheels...will the NP241 bolt to the adapter from a 700r4? will i have to clock the t case? will the crossmember still work?

If its out of a 1 ton TRUCK, you will have to move 'em. The perches are an 1" wider on 1 ton trucks than 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. U-bolts are scrap for the rear, most likely square style and point towards the ground
ORD has a solution for that under "rear suspension"

or mix and match a set of the correct length

AND you have to move your shock mounts

It is a direct bolt in if you have the NP208. I think there is a small difference between the shift linkages. Hopefully someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

The 30 spline stub shafts on the D60 are notoriously weak. So, depending on how you wheel, you may want to change them out to 35 spline alloy (and new locking hubs). The 35 spline stub shafts are actually for the D70 and have to be machined to fit the D60. No big deal if you have a friend/shop who has done it before.

Also, on your tires and wheels...the locking hubs will stick out way far so you may want to consider your wheel width and back spacing so that your wheels help to protect the hubs.

Disc brake conversion for the 14BFF? What size wheels? 15 inch wheels will not fit the D60 or 14BFF without shaving the brake calipers.

What size tires? Are you considering hydro-assist for your steering?

Have fun! I am in the middle of doing the axle swap on mine along with a SM465 and 203/205 doubler.

IDK the spline count on the D60. The disc brake rear conversion will happen when the money pot gets filled back up. ( took all of it to get axles) but i do plan on doing the swap. I want to run 20x10s with a 38" tire. I have 6" suspension and 3" body lifts and no axle blocks. I had 37s on there and they still looked small. Hydro assist would be later when i get more money. Prob the same time i convert to the high steering crossover set-up. Has anyone had an issue running hydro assist steering with hydro boost brake system?
