10-bolt diff cover with dipstick??? Where?

Just had a thought, pull the vent hose off, opull the fill plug and make sure it's full, then make a dipstick to go into the vent tube, mark the dipstick where it is full, then keep it in your glovebox. when you want to check it, just pop the vent hose off and insert dipstick.

Pretty neat idea I think. At least that way you won't have a dipstick hanging out of your diff at all times.

i like the clear diff covers(made from bulletproof glass stuff, should be pretty strong, but no rocks around here,..only mud!

So far using the vent hose tube is the only thing I'd actually try, other than buying a diff cover with the dipstick built in.

BTW, the dipstick that comes with the nice diff covers is barely noticeable. I think you all are visualizing a huge tranny or engine dipstick. The "handle" on the diff cover appears to be about 3/4" long, if that... it's hardly noticeable.

I appreciate the ideas, but unless I can find a kit that's intended to add the dipstick to a cover, I think I'll just end up buying one ready-made.

I was thinking about this and a motorcycle or ATV dipstick came to mind.

Then I wondered about having one of those windows put in a good diff cover. Like is on a motorcycle. Round clear plastic looking window where you can see the level of oil.

This way it wouldn't look funny and the area that isn't as tough as the rest of the diff cover is small and you wouldn't even have to crawl under the rig to check the level.:dunno:

Honestly, I'm surprised there's not a stamped steel version of this on the market already. I don't want to buy the Uber-awesome cast aluminum one, but...

I like the idea of a small, barely visible window.
