Im trying to replace the rear bearing and I cant get them out. Ive tried a slide hammer. Won't budge. Any advice. One of them is completely broken apart. All that is left is the outside survice that touches the inside of the axle. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Mike

I had the same problem. Do you have a welder? Mine came right out after running a few beads on them once the bearing was destroyed.

How close are they to the end of the tube? I hate to say it, but you may have to push the broken one back down the tube with a stick or something.. You know what that means - removing the carrier and differential. Uh oh.

Not sure if it will help or not but if you can get in there with some kind of cutter to put a relief cut in the outer race until it is just about cut through. Then, hit it with a cold chisel to finish the break. Once that is done the stress should be relieved and you should be able to use your slide hammer to get the shell out.

Hope that helps.

Good luck getting anymore help with an attitude like that.

Anymore help? What help??? Other than the response from 90k5blaze (unfortunately I dont have a welder) This was looked at 70 times and ZERO help. Attitude like that? Damn straight! Im down one more so called "friend" after this weekend. I help people all the time and then when I need help from them where are they? You find out who your friends are in the bad times not the good.

I know stuff like this is tough dude. Just try to chill out and think about what you need to do. Patience is the name of the game. Remember you're new here and since you didn't post any pictures, people can't tell exactly what you're facing. Didn't you post this late at night too? These guys on ck5 are really helpful, I would try to make friends with them. They'll answer you as soon as they can; it may just take a day or so.

andyblack, I was frustrated. When I posted the "Thanks for the help" comment my OP had been up for 2 days, looked at 70 times and only 90k5blaze had given any advice. I woke up this morning and find the "Good luck getting any help" comment. I went off a bit. Im not all that new here. Ive been a member since Aug 05. My post count got reset to zero at some point. ??? In the past Ive gotten very good help and had good conversations. At this point in time my blazer is my only means of getting to work. I HATE "having" to work on a vehicle when it breaks and I have a limited amount of time to get it fixed so I can get to work. Any way andy, I understand what you are saying and im sorry for getting frustrated and letting it get to me.

rufusbooth, I tried the cold chisel(I dont have any kind of cutter) to cut the race and all I ended up doing was flattening the corners on 3 of them while only putting a small dent in the race. Thats some tough metal.

I finally got them out. Its amazing what using the proper tool can do. The gears broke on friday around 6pm and I finished it Monday around 5pm. It was a long weekend.

Well I apologize to you if I offended you. I've been on a couple of boards where a new user will come in, ask a question and go off on the other users if they don't get the answers they like. I left a Ford forum board for stuff like that. I know how frustrating it is to need an answer and not get it right away and I should've just stayed out of it.

Again, I apologize and if you find yourself in the southeast corner of Montana, beers are on me!

I can get pretty irate too when I have to work on my junk and nothing seems to go right, which is most any time I try to do something. I'll throw tools and shout and do all kinds of stuff. My wife tries to act like she doesn't know me. And if I have to get the truck running because it's the only thing I have to drive, that makes it even worse. Like last month when my steering broke and I had to leave my truck on a military base. My dad had borrowed my other truck, so I had to get the thing going quick, but I couldn't find a steering knuckle that would work. Thankfully I posted the problem on here and one the members sent me the right knuckle and I was able to get the truck going again.

Automobiles will probably kill me someday, not from an accident but from causing my blood pressure to elevate so high that I have a stroke!
