10 bolt steering arm issue: add spacer or get taller arm?

I recently went to 52s up front (5 leaves and the overload) and the crossover drag link is contacting the springs while sitting flat and turning left, let alone flexed out. I'm running ORD's steering arm now. My guess is that it's going to need at least another inch to clear. I searched for a good bit but didn't find much.

Should I get a one inch spacer with longer studs (cheaper), or pony up for a tall arm from someone (NWF, WFO, SORD, ect.)?

My concern with the spacer is the weakness of the taller studs. Also, I plan on removing the overload in favor for a zero rate to push the axle farther forward if that will help.

What steering arm are you guys with 52s and d44/10b running? Thanks.
 
Do you happen to have shims in your front axle?

And if so are you turning your pinion up? If so thats the reason why you arent clearing. Its a common misconception that from shims are to correct your pinion angle. Take em out I bet it all clears by half an inch.
 
Yeah, I do have shims. The pinion angle looked pretty bad without them...
 
what was your caster angle? That is way more impotant than pinion angle on the front diff. I just removed the shims supplied by RC installed by the PO. Amazing how much better it drives.
 
I'm not sure what the caster angle is. I'm pretty sure even without the shims it would contact the spring when drooped out.

Is anyone running 52s with a d44/10b, or just d60s? Pics would be great... :D

I'm running 52s with a 5leaf pack and a zero rate and have all the clearance in the world. Take the shims out and everything will bolt up fine. They are in backwards anyway.

What happens is that in order to correct pinion angle you take away your caster angle. Caster angle is the amount of degrees that your lower ball joint is in front of your upper if you drew an imaginary circle at the center of your axle tube.

This is a very common misconception that front shims are installed to correct pinion angle, they are not.
 
I plan to take out the shims. I just want to take care of this issue all at once. What steering arm are you running?
 
I had the same problem on my 10b after my zero rate install with just 4" Superlift springs no shims.

If removing the shims doesn't work I recommend getting the tall arm from Sky. It still uses standard length studs, but is a full inch taller I believe.
