$100 12 bolt

I pulled mine out of a 90 "2500". Mine has drum brakes some of the newer ones are disc

And if you hang out more we will give you some verbal abuse too
:haha:

I blew up 2 12 bolt axels on 35s and was on my third and I went 3/4 ton axles. Never have to worry about the 14 bolt 10.5. The semifloat is pretty strong as well. If I were you I'd keep The 10 bolt under until you have a problem. 33s are not going to break the 10 bolt unless you are pushing it hard. If it breaks look for a semifloat 14. They were in a few different trucks and I believe some vans and subs. 1988+

Well, I found a guy who apparently parts a lot of trucks out and says he could get me a 14 bolt semi floater for $500.. Is that typically what they go for? Or am I getting screwed? Seems a little high for a used axle with who knows how many miles on it...

I've also been searching the classifieds and can't find any of these! How common are they?

Thanks guys!

Seems high but if its in good shape and has the correct gear ratio it would be up to you if it's too Much. I payed 200 for my 14 ff. Just depends on you area and availability at the junkyards.

The cost of gearing axles is more expensive than buying used. If the fluid is clean and the brakes are good you would spend more money gearing your 10 bolt. Even at full asking price. Offer him half and work up from there.

That's a guy that parts out trucks price. I found one local to me when I was in TN a few months back. The guy wanted $50, talked him down to $40. Had 4.10's and was 8 lug, it was missing the calipers and brake pads though (if I remember correctly.

I think $275 for one with disc brakes on it would be a fair price but then again you can get a full floater for cheaper than that.

I would ask him if he'll take a trade on your current axle and maybe knock the price in half.

When you look on Craigslist don't limit yourself to looking for just the axle itself. Look in the cars and trucks for sale section and look for a 3/4 ton truck or suburban 2500 that is being parted out and you may get one for dirt cheap.

That's my current plan.. I mean, I'm not going out intentionally trying to grenade it. I'm sure the 10 will hold up for quite some time. But I'd like to have this axle in the corner of the garage all repainted, mounts fabbed up, and ready to go. Plus my current 10 bolt is 100% open. And what fun is that...:frown & okay, I'll remember that!

That's very very true. And that's what I'm planning on doing, but I'm pretty doubtful he will take it. He's in southern Illinois roughly an hour from STL as well

It always sucks to have your truck down for any amount of time. Just remember the spring perches and possibly the shock
Mounts will Have to be moved. If you are careful cutting them off you can reuse them. But the perches are only like 60 bucks for a pair last time I bought them. The shop only charged me 40 more to burn them in for me. At that time you can rotate the axle a bit too If you need to to get a better pinion angle. With only 3 inch lift and 33s that more than likely won't be a issue. My conversion joint on my axle end gets eaten up pretty fast for some reason. I'm looking into having someone put the correct yolk in the end of my driveshaft so I can use a solid same size Ujoint for strength.

Well I found a 14 bolt sf 6 lug.... drove 100 miles to get it... and it was rusted so badly that it actually had a tiny pinhole in one of the axle tubes..:angry1::angry1::angry1: He originally wanted $200 and I offered him $40 in which I bought it for... The internals looked good though so maybe I broke even... Can't catch a break:mad: These things are so hard to find

That sucks dude. Last time @Justin V and I went yardin, there were 3 in a row with drums

10-bolt, 12-bolt, Dana 44 are all the same - 1/2 ton axles (although the front 10b and D44 were used for 3/4-ton - they are FF, you know.)
14B s/f (9.5" ring gear) is the true 3/4-ton rear from GM. Some 3/4-tons got the 10.5" 14BFF, but it's really 1-ton beef.
14B F/F (10.5" ring gear) has 1-ton strength, but was used in 3/4-ton trucks, but with mounts that let it bolt into a 1/2-ton truck. The 1-ton version has different mounting features, but all the same innards. It can be put in a 3/4 or 1/2 ton by moving shock mounts and the spring perches.

Much easier to find low gear in the heavier version trucks. An axle is never cheap if you have to re-gear and re-build it.

Ended up finding another 14 bolt sf pretty close to where I work.. Guy sent a bunch of detailed pictures and it looks really clean.. Still has majority of factory paint on it.. It is an 8 lug, but I'm planning on swapping the axles out of the 6 lug I bought tonight. Sort of turning two axles into one.. & thanks for the knowledge @Blue85 !

I hope the 40$ axle is from a 4x4, otherwisethe axle shafts will be too short.

Got both the axles in my storage unit tonight.. And thankfully the are exactly the same width!(Tubes at least) The drums on my "new" 14bsf 8 lug are monstrous. But the thing is in great shape. Has typical surface rust, but no severe pitting like the other one. Should look great under the truck once it gets built and painted!

& I'm not going to lie, I'm not near as knowledgeable as half you guys on here over axles and whatnot.. So I was wondering, are there any 14 bolt sf 8 lug to 6 lug builds on here? They would definitely help me out!

Thanks!

I put mine together but didn't think too much of it and didn't do a right up. Probably because I was getting constantly mocked for picking the SF over the FF, and the likelyhood of killing nuns and children.

Not a whole lot odd about them really. Make sure you change the axle seals
