no one has them around here, but the next time i go down to the states i want to pick one up, wheres the best place to look?

Radio Shack...

I got mine at Radio Shack,15.99 + tax brand new!--then I found a like new one with the spring,(10 bucks more for the spring!)on a truck at the junkyard for a dollar... .

I will assume that you are in Canada somewhere. Try this site they will mail or courier anything. Pretty good sevice too.
Do a search for Ham radio or Amature radio in your city.
